Eileen had stayed with Leyla for two days, but the pressure from Bryan’s work obligations had been relentless. Raymond had been hounding Bryan to return to VQ Group, practically calling him every five minutes.

Frustrated by the incessant calls, Bryan finally muted his phone.
“Shouldn’t you be heading back? Why are you still here?” Eileen asked, eyeing his silenced phone. She could imagine how anxious Raymond must be now.

“Is it VQ Group? Is its condition really that bad?” Leyla asked. “Eileen, you should head back to the company. Don’t waste time staying here with me!”
Eileen quickly moved to reassure Leyla. “It’s not as serious as it sounds. Everyone’s getting paid, I promise.”
But Leyla wasn’t convinced.
“I know I’ve said over and over that nothing is more important than moving your mother’s body back to the ancestral cemetery. But now that she has been laid to rest, we can’t let VQ Group fall apart.”

Eileen caught the undercurrent in her words—Leyla was determined not to lose anything now.
Sensing an opportunity, Bryan quickly added, “Don’t worry. With Eileen by my side, VQ Group is in good hands. Why don’t you come stay with us in the city? It’s too far to stay here. Besides, Eileen and Gabriela would love to spend more time with you.”
His suggestion, cleverly disguised as concern, aimed to prevent any future excuses for Eileen to return here alone. Eileen, moved after years confined to the Vazquez Mansion, found the idea of a change of scenery appealing. She agreed to go to the city with Bryan and the others.
Bryan wasted no time in setting things up. He had the apartment prepared in advance, leaving a bright, sunny bedroom on the first floor just for Leyla. The next morning, as soon as Eileen settled into the car, sleep claimed her. Her long black hair cascaded over her face, her head tilted in slumber.
When they reached the company, Bryan gently scooped Eileen up and carried her to the elevator, taking her straight to the top floor. He tiptoed into the lounge and carefully laid her down. Eileen didn’t wake up.
