Chapter 936
The crowd pushed Raymond and Eileen backward, trapping them in a corner. Eileen tried to offer words of comfort, but the loud shouts of the crowd drowned out her voice.
Just as the situation was escalating, a sleek Land Rover pulled up to the company’s entrance, its screeching brakes piercing the tension in the air. The door swung open, and Bryan emerged from the driver’s side, striding purposefully towards the crowd.
Bryan’s commanding presence immediately intimidated the workers, who instinctively parted to make way for him.
Although Eileen was of average height, she appeared vulnerable surrounded by a group of hulking bodyguards and workers.
Upon seeing Eileen trapped in the corner, Bryan’s expression darkened, his face freezing into a scowl. He looked at her for a moment before turning to confront the crowd. En route, Raymond had briefed Bryan on the crowd’s intentions, but assuming Bryan’s return would be delayed due to the time-consuming commute from the suburbs, Raymond had contacted Eileen to come to the company.
“Don’t worry, we’ve got this under control,” Bryan said, his voice firm and authoritative. “Although Conroy has left VQ Group, we acknowledge our responsibility in this matter and will handle it accordingly to ensure you receive your unpaid salaries.”
The workers’ faces lit up with relief as they heard this.
The leader of the group asked, “So when will this be resolved? When can we expect our wages?”
“Three days at the earliest, and one week at the latest,” Bryan replied after a moment’s consideration. He turned to Raymond and instructed, “Take down their full details and provide them with temporary financial assistance for the next few days. They can pay the money back once they receive their wages. Additionally, investigate whether they have a place to live. If not, make arrangements for their accommodation.”
When the workers realized Bryan had considered every detail, their anger immediately subsided, replaced by a hint of embarrassment for causing trouble.
In fact, some of them were indeed struggling financially, while others had already secured new jobs and were living on the new company’s premises. Overall, about a dozen individuals were struggling to make ends meet without a place to stay. Raymond located some budget-friendly hotels that could accommodate them long-term and provided financial assistance. Ultimately, he spent thousands of dollars to help with their settlement.
Bryan grabbed Eileen’s wrist and led her into the company. “Why are you back?” Eileen inquired. “Raymond said you were quite far away to discuss a project and wouldn’t be able to return in time.”
“I pieced together what happened before. When I tried calling him back, I couldn’t reach him because the connection was lost. So, I assumed he would contact you to handle the situation,” Bryan explained. As he escorted her into the elevator, he changed the subject. “It’s no surprise Conroy stopped threatening you about not being his daughter. It seems he had other intentions in mind all along. However, in this case, the issue stems from VQ Group’s failure to announce their separation from Conroy in time.”
“Nevertheless, numerous media outlets have reported that you threw Conroy’s belongings out of VQ Group,” Bryan added, “and it’s spreading widely.”
After some contemplation, Eileen said, “Something is amiss with the Byrd family. They must not have signed the agreement with Conroy. Otherwise, Conroy wouldn’t have been able to obtain the VQ Group’s seal to sign the contract with the workers.”
