“Why are you staring at me like that?” Gianna snapped, irritation etched on her face. “Don’t listen to her nonsense!”
“The court officials are here, so I said that to provoke you. If you don’t believe me, ask her if she has sold your house and car. Let her explain, and you’ll feel better, won’t you?” Eileen’s eyes gleamed with mischief. Conroy’s questioning gaze bore into Gianna, whose frown only deepened.
Eileen continued, “Then again, what good would asking do? How would you know if she’s telling the truth or not?” Bryan sauntered to Eileen’s side, a smile playing on his lips. “She has a point.”
Eileen turned to him, her tone playful. “Oh, stop. I was just speculating. It’s probably not true.”
“Is it?” Bryan’s eyes sparkled with intrigue.
“Maybe you’ve guessed it right, but who can say for certain?” Eileen said. “She might have sold his assets while he was bedridden. If she sensed trouble, she could quickly leave, right?”
Bryan furrowed his brow in mock contemplation. “It’s just a theory.”
A heavy silence descended upon the room. Everyone could see that Eileen and Bryan were doing this on purpose, but its effectiveness was undeniable. Gianna’s expression darkened. She knew Conroy would be tricked by them.
True to form, suspicion etched itself deeper into Conroy’s features. Though he maintained composure in front of the others, doubt had taken hold. Conroy pressed his hand to his chest, his expression dark.

“Everyone, I’m truly unwell. We’ll address this matter in court once I’ve recovered.”
As the court staff departed after offering words of comfort to Conroy, Eileen turned to Bryan with a mischievous glint in her eyes. She linked her arm through his and declared, “Let’s head home. I need to tally up our shared assets—see how many houses belong to each of us.”
Bryan’s voice remained neutral as he replied, “No need. I don’t own a single property. The companies, houses, cars—they’re all in your name.”
Feigning surprise, Eileen said, “So if I were to sell everything and transfer the funds, you’d be left penniless?”
Bryan replied with a serious expression, “Which is why I hope you’ll consider our love…”
The ward door closed behind them, muffling their conversation.
Before Conroy could gather his thoughts, Gianna’s temper flared. “What’s that look for? You don’t trust me? You think I’ve sold off the house and car, is that it?”
“Then let me keep the ownership certificates!” Conroy demanded, his voice rising.
Suddenly, the door swung open. Eileen poked her head in, adding fuel to the fire. “If the certificates are in her name, you keeping them means nothing. She could report them lost, have new ones issued, and still sell everything.”
After saying that, she closed the door once more. Through the long glass panel, Conroy caught a glimpse of Eileen and Bryan walking arm in arm, leaving.
“I can’t stay here any longer,” Conroy said, throwing back his covers and attempting to rise.
