Realization dawned on Gianna. “It must be Eileen. Don’t be fooled. We can’t sell the villa. Stop answering calls and tear down those ads!”
Jessica nodded, quickly blacklisting the recent inquiries. But as she was about to block the morning’s buyer, she froze.
“Damn it! We have to sell the villa!”
“Why?” Gianna demanded. “Just because of an ad? It’s our choice whether to sell or not!”
“But the buyer has already put down a two-hundred-thousand-dollar deposit!” Jessica showed Gianna the transfer record.
“What?” Gianna’s stomach sank. Backing out now meant compensating for breach of contract. With their current financial struggles, even losing tens of thousands would be devastating.
Jessica’s voice dropped to a whisper. “The thing is… I’ve already spent all of the deposit.”
“What?” Gianna’s voice rose in disbelief. “You just got the deposit this morning, and it’s already gone? How did you blow through it so fast?”
“There was that party,” Jessica mumbled.
“I’ve been pinching pennies lately, so my friends have been covering for me. I thought we’d be selling the villa for tens of millions, so I splurged to thank them…” Gianna’s head throbbed with anger, leaving her momentarily speechless.
After a while, she forced herself to focus on solving the problem.
She said, “We shouldn’t waste time anymore. Contact this man immediately. See if he’ll agree not to buy. We’ll find another way to repay the deposit.”

Jessica quickly messaged the buyer. His reply was swift and furious.
“I just paid the deposit, and now you’re backing out? Pay me ten times the deposit, or I’ll sue!”
Gianna’s heart sank at the buyer’s message. He clearly wasn’t willing to back out.
“Give me his number. I’ll handle this.” Gianna sighed. Living in the same community, she might find a mutual connection to help persuade him.
After a pause, she said, “Don’t tell this to your father. If he loses his temper and leaves the hospital, the court will arrest him immediately. Understand?”
Before Jessica could respond, a cold voice cut through the air. Gianna and Jessica turned to see Conroy standing nearby, his eyes narrowed.
“What don’t you want to tell me?”
With a guilty conscience, Jessica shook off Gianna’s hand and hastily turned to leave.
“Dad, Mom, I’m leaving now. Goodbye!”
Seeing this, Conroy found the matter more suspicious.
“Why is she in such a rush to leave?”
Gianna shrugged.
“I don’t know. Why are you out?”
“How would I know what you’re discussing behind my back if I didn’t come out?” Conroy said with a dark expression.
