Just as he was about to make a hasty exit, Gabriela ran over and tugged on his pants.
“Raymond, Daddy’s hugging Mommy again! But Daddy still likes me. Mommy and Daddy both like me!”
Her big eyes sparkled, her expression serious. She knew that even when Eileen and Bryan were hugging, they still liked her!
Raymond suddenly realized what he had done wrong. He hadn’t expected Gabriela to tell Bryan what he had said to her!
“What’s going on?” Eileen asked, turning to Bryan. She could sense something was off. Bryan, however, had already averted his gaze and was smiling calmly at her.
“I’m curious, too. What’s the matter, Raymond?”
Raymond panicked. “No, Mr. Dawson, it’s my fault. I was just teasing Gabriela before. Please, don’t mind me. I just remembered I have some paperwork to finish. I’ll get back to it right away!”
As soon as he finished his sentence, he bolted out the door. Raymond was so determined to avoid Bryan that he decided he wouldn’t step foot in Bryan’s office for the next three days unless absolutely necessary.
However, the next morning, the receptionist handed him an invitation card.
The Byrd family’s patriarch had invited Eileen to his eightieth birthday celebration. While the Byrd family and the Vazquez family weren’t particularly close, they were both well-known and respected families in Alverton.
Eileen took the invitation home and asked Leyla, “Grandma, should I attend this?”

The invitation specified that the event was at four o’clock in the afternoon. The hotel where the event would be held, situated on a vast plain, boasted breathtaking views thanks to its glass walls. Tourists visiting Alverton often chose this hotel for its stunning scenery.
The hotel was a two-hour drive from the city. While Bryan was busy at work, Eileen went shopping and picked out some clothes. After lunch, Eileen and Bryan both changed into their new outfits and headed straight for the hotel.
Leyla decided to let Gabriela stay at home. Inside the car, Eileen felt the absence of Gabriela’s cheerful babbles as strange. Eileen occasionally glanced at her phone, whispering something to Bryan. Raymond, who was driving the car, breathed a sigh of relief. The awkward silence he dreaded never came. He silently wished Bryan wouldn’t make things difficult for him because of that matter from now on.
The drive took two hours, and the car arrived at the hotel at half-past three in the afternoon. The hotel bustled with activity; the banquet had drawn a large crowd. As soon as their car stopped, a waiter rushed to open the door for them. Bryan stepped out, standing tall and surveying the scene before offering his hand to Eileen.
Eileen placed her hand in Bryan’s, and with his help, she emerged from the car. Standing beside him, she looked petite and lovely. The couple paused briefly, acknowledging the surrounding reporters with a slight nod, before walking confidently into the hotel.
The front of the hotel housed the check-in area, while the back featured expansive glass rooms. The main hall was spacious, bathed in warm sunlight streaming through the glass ceiling. The heating system kept the temperature comfortable despite the chilly weather outside.
Eileen looked amazing in her long dress. She was so beautiful and graceful that everyone’s eyes were on her. This was her first big event as a member of the Vazquez family, so people were really curious about her. Kamila, watching Eileen from a distance, couldn’t help but frown.
