“Rabe?” Carmella yells from theotherend of the line and it sounds like she’s furning.
It’s so unexpected that I rise to my feet and rub my temples. She’s not supposed to be out there during the day.
“Why do you haveVanessa’sphone!” I’m unable to hide my surprise.
“Does it matter why Ihaveit? And why are you calling her?”
“Give me back my phone!” Vanessa’s yelling chimes in from the background.
I’m not evenableto ask how things ended upthatway because there’s a series of heavy grunting from both of them and what sounds like a struggle. Then, the call ends abruptly.
Not wanting things to escalate between the two of them, I leave my phone and rush outside. The house is so big that despite being as fast as my legscancarry me, it takes me a while.

I shake my head as I rush over there beforeitcan get messy between them. My fatherwouldkill me if he were to spot even a single scratch on Vanessa.
Carmella mischievously laughs as she jumps everytimeVanessatries to reach for her phone. I can tell that Vanessa’s holding back so she doesn’t get physical.She even sees me but that doesn’t stop her from trying to get her phone.
As I get closer, Carmella doesn’t even notice mesinceshe’s facing the other side,
When I stand right behind her, despite her standing on her tippy toes to keep Vanessa’s phone, Ieasilygrab onto her wrists and shegetsa little shorter as she places her feet flat on the ground and looks back at me.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I’m so annoyed by Carmella’s conduct that my tone is low and a little threatening.
“Babe, she was shewas-”
“Givethe phone back toVanessa.
“But-”
“Now.”
She scoffsasshegives itbacktoVanessa. I don’t even wanttoknow how the phone ended up with Carmella.
As my eyes dart between the two of them, they linger on Vanessa because I’ve never seen her so upset.
“Next time, stay away from my y stuff!” Vanessa warns her before she storms off.
“Babe, did you see that? This bitch is so…”
She trails off when she looks up at me and finds me staring down at her with crossed arms and a blank face.
“What was the meaning ofthat?” I ask,
“Look, her phone was ringing and I couldn’t help it since itwasleft here. All I did was check who was calling”

“I was curious” She shrugs. “When I saw your name, I just had to pick up. But why were you calling her?”
“Do you really want to ask me questions right now?”
She lowers her gaze and fiddles with her fingers.TmI’m sorry”
By the looks of it, Vanessa didn’t even get the chance to mention the way I kissed her and touched her. That’s good enough
for me.
Despite Carmella’s apology, I still find this mess annoying.
“Getbackinside the house. You know you’re not supposed to be but here.”

“Fine!” She storms off, heading straightbackto the house.
Though I should follow behind her right away, now’s a good time to talktoVanessa, so I head in the same direction she headed in when she stormed off

I can’t believe I was so close to losing my temper and slapping Carmella across the face. She went too farthistime.

Thinking about her mockery as she prevented me from getting my phone back from her infuriates me rightnow.
My heart’s still racing and I feelalittle hot. I need to calm down from this
The way she turned obedient when Dominic showed up crosses my mind. I’ve never seen him like that before. Hewasso dominant. Why does it matter? Whatever, I’m glad I got my phone back.

Before I can even begin to list the possible reasons, a floral blue and white shirt catches my attention from the othersideandI look over, then look away with an eye roll.
What does he want now? Is he here to warn me to stay away from his girlfriend? But now that I think about it, he didn’t take any sides this time.
Still, it doesn’t matter. It might’ve only been the moment itself and nothing much.
The closer he gets, the more I face the other side. After everything that happened earlier when we kissed, I still can’t stop thinking about it.
“If you keep looking the other way, you’ll end up hurting that neck of yours and then my father will scold me for not taking care of his precious daughter–in–law,” hesaysmockingly.

“Fine. I wasn’t planning on saying anything to her about it anyway. There’s nothing to show off after all. And why did you call

“To tell you to keep your mouth shut.”
I scoff. “Why am I not surprised?”
I wish I could be on this island without these two around. Itwouldbe a little scary being here alone, but at least I wouldn’t have to deal with them.
“There’s something else we need to discuss. He crouches down right in front of me and his muscular thighs in his shorts flex hard.
I look away and tuck my wet hair behind my ear. “What is it this time?”
“You know about the Little Warriors Hospital.”
“Of course I do. You’ve told me about it several times and I always check out the website.”

Offended, I shake my head at him, but two can play that game so I nod and say, “Fine, whatever my fucking husband says.”
“Don’t get smart with me.” He warnsme, pointing at me with a gare that actually intimidates me.

“That doesn’t mean you get to do the same. Make this the last time you ever do that. Now, about Penelope. I want to see her as soon aspossiblesowe’re cuttingthishoneymoon short.”

“You heard me. I really do want to see her but I’m also using this as an opportunity toleavethis place sooner. Staying here and not even being with my girlfriend outside sucks. I’m sure my father will understand because he cares about the hospital,
I’m a little disappointed so I slouch. As much as I would’ve loved to stay longer, I don’t mind leaving so soon if it means 1 get to be away from Carmella. There’s no way she’s coming to live with us in our home.
