Chapter 1009
Shaun pulled his multi-million-dollar car up in front of Anteoch University. Today, he was dressed in the classic rich CEO look— black suit, crisp white shirt. The moment he stepped out, his handsome and refined appearance turned heads.
It didn’t take long for the young, pretty college girls to start glancing his way; eyes lighting up with interest, soft smiles blooming as they exchanged looks full of curiosity and admiration.
Shaun didn’t pay them any attention. He was used to this kind of reaction. After watching Halsey disappear into the campus, he turned around and got into his luxury car, ready to leave.
Just then, he heard someone tapping on his window.
Shaun slowly lowered it. Standing outside was a pretty student, her eyes shining as she looked at him. She gave him a sweet smile. “Hi.”
Shaun’s expression stayed perfectly calm. “Something you need?”
The girl gathered her courage. “Hi, um… Can I get your number?”
“Sorry,” Shaun replied without a change in expression. “My wife would be upset if she found out.”
That line hit hard. The girl’s face fell, and she quickly said, “Oh! I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to bother you.”
Shaun rolled up the window and drove off.
The girl stood there, clearly disappointed. Another student ran over. “Well? Did you get his number?”
“No… He said he’s married.”
“Sigh. Figures! All the good ones are always taken! Come on. We should get to class.”
Shaun arrived at his company. Lately, he had been spending most of his time with Halsey, so work had piled up.
He stayed busy all morning. By the time noon rolled around, Martin stepped into the office. “Mr. Lane, the company chef brought your lunch.”
The office door opened, and the chef came in with two assistants, delivering a table full of delicious food.
“Mr. Lane, it’s time for lunch,” the chef said.
“Thanks for your hard work. You can go now,” Shaun replied.
“Alright.”
The chef and his team left.
Martin reminded Shaun, “You should eat while it’s still warm.”
Shaun set down his paperwork. “What time is it now?”
“It’s 12 PM.”
Noon.
Shaun pulled out his phone and opened WhatsApp.
Nothing. No message from Halsey.
How was she doing at Anteoch University? What was she up to now? Had she run into Calvin? Or worse, was she with him right now?
It was already lunchtime. Had she eaten yet?
Shaun realized he missed her. His long fingers hovered over the keyboard before he finally sent her a message.
[Have you eaten?]
Message sent.
Shaun waited. And waited.
But there was no reply. The message disappeared into the void.
He typed another one.
[Are you really busy right now? If you are, I won’t bother you.]
Halsey hadn’t said yes to his proposal yet. He was honestly feeling anxious, but he didn’t want to pressure her, so he tried to hold back.
Still no reply.
Shaun looked over at Martin. “Martin.”
“Yes, Mr. Lane?”
“I want to ask you something.”
“Of course. Go ahead.”
“If you texted your girlfriend and she didn’t answer, what would you do?”
Martin paused. “I’d think maybe she’s busy. When she’s free, she’ll reply. I wouldn’t worry.”
