Chapter 1056
Martin was sweating bullets. “I’ll go in first and give Mr. Lane a heads–up.”
Halsey stepped forward. “No need!”
She pushed open the office door herself.
Shaun and Warren were both inside. Shaun looked up, surprised to see Halsey.
Warren froze. “Ms. Mallin? What are you doing here? Martin, how could you not tell us she was coming?”
Shaun immediately stood and walked toward Halsey. “What are you doing here?”
Martin looked guilty. “I…”
Halsey waved him off. “Don’t blame Martin. He tried to stop me, but I came in anyway.”
Shaun frowned. “Okay. But why did you come here? Aren’t you supposed to be at school?”
Halsey shook her head. “I didn’t feel like going today. I came to check on you.”
Her clear, beautiful eyes flicked from Shaun to Warren and Martin. “What’s with these looks? You all seem like you’re not happy to see me. Am I bothering you?”
Warren quickly said, “No, no! We just didn’t expect you.”
Shaun added, “You should’ve called me before coming.”
Halsey sat down on the sofa. “If I had called, do you think you would’ve told me about the news today?”
Shaun froze. “You already know?”
Warren and Martin exchanged a glance, realizing they couldn’t hide it anymore.
Halsey’s voice was calm but firm. “I know everything. How long were you planning to keep this from me?”
Warren quickly jumped in. “Ms. Mallin, I was at the club last night, too. Don’t believe what the reporters wrote. I can testify–Shaun didn’t touch anyone!”
Halsey raised an eyebrow. “Is that so?”
“Of course! Shaun had had a bit to drink and was resting. Sierra brought him the hangover soup and tried to seduce him. When he didn’t fall for it, she staged the whole thing, claiming he tried to assault her. That’s the whole story, Cross my heart!” Warren explained.
Halsey looked at Shaun. “What do you have to say?”
Shaun sat next to her. “Nothing happened with Sierra. She set a trap to frame me on purpose.”
Halsey tilted her head. “So you think you did nothing wrong?”
Shaun blinked, “What did I do wrong?”
Halsey smiled softly. “You were wrong to hide it from me. Did you think I wouldn’t believe you?”
At that, everyone in the room let out a sigh of relief.
Warren grinned. “Ms. Mallin, I knew you were smart and level–headed. You wouldn’t fall for those baseless lies.
Shaun held Halsey’s hand. “Thank you for trusting me.”
Halsey squeezed his hand back. “We’re getting married, and you’re the father of my baby. We’re a family. No matter what happens, I’ll trust you and stand by your side. But you shouldn’t have kept this from me–I was really worried when I found out.”
Shaun pulled her into a hug. “I just didn’t want you to worry. You’re pregnant now, and it’s hard enough already.
Warren cleared his throat. “Uh… We’ll give you guys some room.”
Halsey laughed, gently pushing Shaun back. “No, stay! So, what’s the plan now?”
