Chapter 310 The Return of Quinn
Susie gently patted Chase’s hand. “Someone has to back down. And truthfully… we do owe Jonathan.”
Chase was silent for a long moment before finally murmuring, “I’m sorry. I’ve made you suffer too.”
Unaware of the decision his parents had just made to send him abroad, Jose headed to his usual meeting spot with Shane. Shane was already there, sipping tea from his wheelchair, calm and composed.
Jose glanced at him with a mocking smirk. “Mr. Shane really knows how to hold back.”
Everyone said Shane was a madman, but Jose didn’t see it. He didn’t seem that unhinged–at least not when it came to Jonathan. Shane had been the one to get his legs broken, and even then, all he’d done was stir up some petty noise.
Shane didn’t rise to the insult. He smiled and said, “Unlike me, Mr. Jose is the apple of Wayne and Chase’s eye.”
Jose scoffed. Everyone thought he was the most favored, but whenever Jonathan entered the picture, he was pushed aside.
His grandfather had always been biased. Now even his father was the same. Outwardly, Chase seemed to resent Jonathan, but when it came down to real trouble, he always worried more about him.
“I got caught messing with Jonathan.”
Shane’s gaze sharpened slightly. “Is Mr. Jose giving up, then?”
“Why would I?” Jose’s voice dripped with disdain. “The more they tell me to stop, the more I want to keep going. They might owe Jonathan something–but I don’t.”
He had yielded for years.
Back then, he admired Jonathan and looked up to him. He tried to model himself after him. But Jonathan had never once acknowledged him. Never spared him a glance.
He wanted Jonathan to know–hewasn’tsomeone to be dismissed.
Shane’s eyes flickered with interest. “Owe him? Owe him what?”
Jose didn’t answer. He’d already said too much. He wasn’t about to dig a deeper hole for himself.
Seeing that Jose wasn’t willing to talk more, Shane let it go–for now. One day, he believed, Jose would reveal everything.
Instead, he changed the subject. “Jonathan won’t let this go quietly.He’snot one to takeahit and walk away. Gotaplan?”
Jose nodded. “I used to think he was invincible. But not anymore. Hehasaweakness now, doesn’t he?”
Until recently, he hadn’t thought much of Sierra. But after this incident, he realized–shewasJonathan’s Achilles‘ heel.
“As long aswecontrol Sierra, we control him.”
Shane didn’t respond immediately. He recalled the stubbornresolvein Sierra’s eyes, the painful marks on her body. He frowned slightly, though his tone remained even.“She won’t be easy to handle.”
“You said it yourself–it won’t beeasyto break them. Butonceyou plant theseedof doubt,it’s onlyamatter of time before they turn oneachother.” Jose smiled faintly. “I’ve alreadycalledsomeoneback.”
Headded,“Thatpersonwilldefinitely shake things up betweenthem.”
“Oh?”Shane chuckled, noncommittal,unsure whether to believe it or not.
Jose let outacold snort.“You’ll seesoonenough.”
“I look forward to it.”Shane raised histeacupwitha smirk.

Whatever was said next made his face turn cold.
“Alright. I’ll pick you up from the airport tomorrow.”

At that moment, Jonathan had been eating with Sierra and a few close colleagues. Sierra had arranged the dinner to thank everyone–Mateo, Draven, and the others–for helping manage the public crisis and coordinate with government officials.
Noticing the sudden shift in his expression, Sierra asked, “What happened?”
“Quinn’s coming back,” Jonathan replied.
Sierra blinked, unfamiliar with the name. But Mateo and the others clearly knew who she was.
“She’s coming back now?” Draven asked, frowning.
Seeing Sierra’s confusion, he explained, “Quinn is Jonathan’s younger sister. She’s a little younger than us. We all grew up together, but she moved abroad and rarely comes back.”
That she was returning now–out of the blue–was suspicious.
Jonathan confirmed their hunch. “She said she’s bringing a lot of luggage. And a child. Asked me to pick her up.”
“She’s traveling alone with a kid? Where’s her husband?” Mateo asked instinctively.
Jonathan didn’t answer.
The silence was heavy.
Sierra didn’t know Quinn, but hearing she was Jonathan’s sister, she couldn’t help butfeeluneasy.
