“You have to check in just to go out for dinner?”
His voice startled Sierra, and her expression darkened.
Seeing this, White quickly apologized.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. They were just saying they were about to leave, so I came to get you. I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop on your call!”
He apologized good–naturedly, and Sierra didn’t want to be harsh, so she just said.
“It’s not checking in. It’s respect. He’s my partner.”
After that, she didn’t wait for White’s reaction and went off with Autumn and the others.
White’s eyes darkened slightly, then he followed behind them.
Professor Martin had chosen a well–known restaurant. Luckily, he had enough clout to get them a table— places were fully booked this close to the new year.
“Usually no one drinks because we’re worried about affecting our experiments. But we don’t have anything tomorrow, so let’s raise a glass today. First, a big thank–you to White. Without his investment, this project wouldn’t even exist.”
Sierra knew her limits when it came to alcohol, so she asked for something with a very low alcohol
