Chase hadn’t expected such venom. His face turned ghostly pale.

Thinking of that gentle, soft–spoken woman, Johnathan’s chest tightened like it had been stabbed.
She was so foolish.
None of this had anything to do with her. If she’d never met Chase or Susie, she could have lived a wonderful life.
She had a loving father and brother, and even a fiancé. But in the end, she lost everything.
Her fiancé died. Her child didn’t make it. And even then, she was still thinking of saving her friends from misery.
Johnathan stood up, coldly looking down at Chase.
“You’re afraid. I’m not. Someone has to do something for her.”
