A House Divided
That night, the lights in the Wynn family’s conference hall burned until morning.
By early the next day, Sierra was starting to feel faint, her vision blurring. Fortunately, someone at her side caught her in time.
“Ma’am, careful,” the butler said, looking worried. “You should rest for a while.”
Sierra didn’t refuse. She knew she couldn’t collapse now not when she was carrying a child.

The previous night’s events had already spread through their circles. Plenty of eyes were on the Wynn family, waiting to see what would happen.
Mateo, Stone, and Draven all looked grim, especially Stone – he hadn’t caught even a whisper of warning beforehand. That meant the whole thing had been done with extreme secrecy.
“I heard the security bureau and commerce department joined forces,” Stone reported.
Mateo’s face darkened. He stood abruptly, heading for the door, but Draven blocked him. “Where are you going?”
“Let go!” Mateo barked.
“Calm down,” Draven said. He knew exactly who Mateo wanted to confront, but going to Maddox now would be pointless.
It wasn’t even clear what role Maddox had played, if any, and in the current situation, this wasn’t something he could control.

Mateo knew that, but anger still burned in him. He couldn’t understand how Maddox could do this Jonathan, of all people. They had grown up together. Were all those years of brotherhood worth nothing?
“Let’s go to the Wynn estate first,” Stone suggested. “Jonathan’s in trouble, and Sierra must be worried sick. She’s not in a convenient situation either.”
For once, Stone’s mind was on more than logistics. Draven and Mateo snapped out of it and headed for the Wynn residence.
By then, Chase, Jose, and Susie had already arrived at the old house. Along with them came a number of the Wynn family’s branch members.
The place was noisy with bickering and posturing, and if Chase hadn’t been keeping a lid on things, it would have been even worse.
Sierra had been sleeping lightly, but the racket outside soon woke her.
She changed clothes, called for the butler, and learned that several of the Wynn family’s branch relatives had shown up.
“Ma’am, Sir is here. You can relax,” the butler reassured her.
Sierra nodded, forcing down a bit of food before heading downstairs.

She arrived just in time to hear one of the Wynn family members sneer, “Jonathan tells us not to do this, not to do that, but then he does whatever he wants. And sloppily enough to drag the whole family

Chase’s face was thunderous, ready to speak, but another voice cut in first.

Sierra had never liked the Wynn family’s traditions, but she had respected them and kept her distance. Now, hearing such brazen disrespect, she found it almost laughable.
She glanced around the room. Many faces carried unspoken agreement with the man’s words.
She knew why–Jonathan’s sweeping reforms as head of the family had cut into their profits.
The Wynn family was vast, and no one ever thought they had too much money. Even with generous yearly dividends, some still weren’t satisfied and used the family name to do as they pleased.
Under the old patriarch, as long as they didn’t cross a certain line, he turned a blind eye.
But Jonathan had ended that entirely when he took over, earning simmering resentment. As they weren’t direct descendants, they hadn’t dared act out – until now, when news broke that Jonathan had been taken in.
Her eyes swept over them. A number of people avoided her gaze. She gave a short, scornful laugh.
“I’ve always heard the Wynn family’s rules were strict. Today, I’ve truly seen for myself.”
“You’re just going to stand there while he slanders your family head?”
The man snorted. “We don’t have a family head who breaks the law.”
