Holding the Line
Someone was about to speak, but Sierra didn’t give them the chance.
“All you ever do is run your own little calculations,” she said sharply. “Ask yourselves honestly–since Jonathan became head of the family, haven’t you been getting more money than before? And every cent of it clean. Instead of being content, you’re here making noise. If the Wynn family falls, what do you think you’ll have left? Who will still give you the time of day then?”
Her words hit hard, leaving the room momentarily stunned.
Everyone knew Sierra was now the lady of the house, but they had never taken her seriously. Her presence had always been quiet, almost invisible.
That was exactly why they’d dared to show up today. They feared Jonathan, but they didn’t think Sierra was worth worrying about.
Even Chase and Susie were taken aback.
They knew her better than most – gentle on the surface, but unyielding in her principles.
When they’d clashed with Jonathan before, they had considered going through Sierra, only to find she stood firmly by Jonathan’s side.
They had hurried over this morning thinking Sierra wouldn’t be able to handle this, since she had never involved herself in Wynn family affairs.
But today, they saw they had underestimated her.
Even without Jonathan, she feared no one.
Her words silenced the troublemakers. One by one, they closed their mouths.
“This won’t end here,” Sierra said. “If they’ve decided to move against the Wynn family, this is only the beginning. If you have any sense at all, you’ll know now is the time for unity, not for washing your hands
don’t give anyone an excuse to come after you. Otherwise, you won’t of it. Keep your own turf clean even know how you died. And stop dreaming about replacing Jonathan. If the powers above have already made a move, their target isn’t Jonathan alone – it’s the entire Wynn family. Now go.”

She waved a hand. Even sitting in her chair, her face pale and thin with fatigue, there was a force in her presence no one dared resist.
The group dispersed in uneasy silence. Many faces showed fear at the thought of the Wynn family truly collapsing.
Once they were gone, Sierrá let out a slow breath.
“Have some water,” Susie said quickly, handing her a glass. She looked at her with concern. “You’ve been through enough.”
Sierra had only just started feeling better in recent days. Now, this – she had to worry about Jonathan and deal with these people.

Chase looked guilty too
. As an elder, he felt he hadn’t been able to help much.
“I’m fine,” Sierra said, rubbing her forehead. Her appetite had been poor; even breakfast had been forced- down.
Seeing their worried expressions, she added, “Don’t worry about me. I know my body comes first right
now.”
She hadn’t let Chase join the meeting the previous night – Jonathan’s arrangements were not something he knew about.
After a moment’s thought, she said, “I’ll need to trouble you to hold things together here for now.
If they had already taken Jonathan in, they would try to delay as much as possible.
She had also realized they didn’t want to destroy the Wynn family- they wanted to take control of it. After all, there wasn’t a single word about the Wynn family on the internet.
That told her there was an unspoken consensus: no matter how messy things got inside, the economy could not be shaken.
Knowing that gave her an edge.
She laid out what she thought the other side might do next, along with her own predictions and countermeasures. Chase nodded repeatedly as he listened.
“I finally understand why Jonathan chose you,” he said.
Before, he had thought it was simply because they both shared a love for chemical biology. Now, he saw Sierra was far tougher than anyone had imagined.
It was a rare quality.
As they discussed, Stone and the others arrived. They’d gotten word on the way and had been worried. Seeing Sierra calm and steady now, they breathed a little easier.
“Don’t worry, Sierra,” Mateo said, trying to reassure her. “Nothing’s going to happen. It just looks like a big deal. Jonathan’s got us on his side. You just focus on taking care of yourself.”
