Rosie was seething with anger.
Brenna responded calmly and confidently, “I was home this morning and out this afternoon; I had no opportunity to tamper with anything.”
Her voice took on a mocking tone as she added, “Still can’t find who ruined your clothes? Maybe you should consider filing a police report, given how expensive your wardrobe is.”
At that moment, Ernst returned home, the epitome of a seasoned businessman in his crisply tailored suit, radiating a cold, authoritative aura. He had grown increasingly dissatisfied with Rosie’s recent behavior, and tonight’s incident had reached him through the household staff.
Approaching Rosie with a stern look, he asked sharply, “Haven’t you caused enough trouble for one evening? You’ve made serious accusations against Brenna without evidence. What justifies this?”
Rosie felt a deep sense of injustice. It seemed no one in the family trusted her anymore. Tears began to well in her eyes. “Ernst, how can you not believe me? Who else could harbor such hatred toward me, if not her?” she pleaded.
Unconvinced, Ernst countered, “Brenna isn’t the type to do something like this. Even if she dislikes you, you should ask yourself why she dislikes you and not others.”
He spotted Ethan sitting nearby, a subtle smile flickering in his eyes. Ethan usually kept busy with work, but lately, he spent almost all his time with Brenna.
“Since you’re here, why not join me for a drink?” Ernst said to Ethan with a casual smile.
Ethan nodded in agreement. “Sounds good,” he replied.
Dalton, still lingering in the room, added, “I’ll join you too. Let’s get some snacks going as well.”
The three of them headed off, leaving Rosie alone to grapple with her emotions.
Tears streaming down her cheeks, Rosie watched Brenna pass by with a shrug. “I’m telling you, it wasn’t me. Maybe you should dig deeper—or even involve the police if necessary,” Brenna said calmly.
Overwhelmed by emotion, Rosie stamped her foot. Was calling the police over some ruined clothes really worth it?
She retreated to her room, only to find Rachael scolding the other servants. “What are you all staring at? Didn’t you hear Mr. Harper’s request for drinks? Get moving!” she exclaimed.
Once the servants dispersed, Rachael turned to Rosie and sighed sympathetically. “Miss Harper, please calm down. I still think Miss Brenna Harper is behind this. She’s clever enough to tamper with surveillance footage. Let’s not dwell on it now. We’ll find a way to get back at her!”
Rosie surveyed the damaged clothes scattered across her room, her emotions a turbulent mix of anger and frustration.
“It has to be Brenna. But without proof, I’m powerless! If I catch her in the act, she’ll regret it,” Rosie said fiercely.
