Brenna stepped out of her room and quietly watched Rosie, now in handcuffs.
Surprised to see Brenna unharmed, Rosie exclaimed, “You’re actually okay?”
She quickly assumed Brenna was the one who had called the police and became angry. “Why couldn’t we resolve this ourselves? Why involve the police? Do you understand the harm this could cause to the Harper Group?”
Brenna responded sharply with a slap that nearly sent Rosie tumbling. “Do you realize the harm your plan would have caused me if it had succeeded?”
She then struck Rosie three more times rapidly, each slap leaving Rosie dazed and her cheeks flushed.
Rosie shouted in fury, “Mom, Dad, won’t you stop her? How can she be allowed to hit me like this?”
She squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for another blow, confused and shaken that her parents had stood by while she was being hit.
Her heart sank, believing she would be abandoned by the Harper family.
However, no further slap came. When she cautiously opened her eyes, she saw her parents looking at her with a mix of disappointment, anger, and perhaps a readiness to discipline her themselves.
In the next instant, Shepard slapped her.
“You ungrateful brat!” Shepard, overwhelmed with anger, hit someone for the first time in his life—shockingly, his own daughter.
Even during their childhood mistakes, he had never physically disciplined his children. But now, Rosie’s actions had deeply disappointed him.
“You’ve disappointed me deeply this time. Move out as soon as you can. And stop calling us Mom and Dad.” He gestured to the police officers, signaling them to escort Rosie away.

Rosie was led away without resistance, confident she would return soon, believing the Harper family’s concern for their reputation would prevent her prolonged detention.
Giselle hugged Brenna tightly, her voice filled with apology. “My dear, we’re so sorry. We had no idea someone was plotting against you. I can’t imagine how you managed to deal with those thugs.”
Shepard also expressed his remorse. “This is on me. We shouldn’t have forgiven Rosie so easily. We should have kicked her out of the house the moment she showed her true colors.”
Brenna remained calm. “I’m fine, aren’t I? Her petty schemes won’t affect me,” she replied confidently.
As Rosie was about to be placed in the police car at the entrance of the house, she suddenly stopped, standing defiantly. “You’re really going to take me to the station dressed like this? That’s not right. I want to change my clothes. You can’t refuse me that,” she demanded.
“We can’t allow that,” an officer replied curtly, ushering her into the vehicle without hesitation.
