Chapter 170
Chapter 170:
“I love you too, Oscar. More than you’d ever know,” I heard him say, but I quickly dismissed his words. I’d heard someone say that once before. I thought it was real… until it turned out it wasn’t.
When Chip texted me, I was relieved to be home. I didn’t know exactly what had happened, but I’d ask questions later.
That was an hour ago. Oscar was asleep, looking utterly exhausted. I understood that people could be hurtful, but now I could see why Oscar acted the way he did. His dad had overreacted, and that was probably what upset him enough to walk back home instead of calling for his driver.
I didn’t like his reckless behavior, though at least he allowed me to hold him and still let me care for him.
“Did you get our men to clean the scene?” I asked Chip when I joined him outside, after confirming that there was no immediate danger and no one was following Oscar.
“I did. It’s done, Boss,” Chip replied quickly, though he couldn’t explain why Oscar had walked back from the office instead of driving with his driver. Did his dad anger him that much? That seemed like the more likely reason.
“I think it’s safe for you to head back to your post,” I told Chip as I walked him to the front door. He nodded, and I locked up behind him, activating the alarm.
After spending more time talking with Chip, I felt the exhaustion settling in, and I knew he felt it too. We’d been running on fumes since I’d been tying up loose ends with Ghazi’s uncles and taking over their operations. My crew had raided their properties and made sure their business partners understood that a new and more powerful boss had taken over.
The townhouse I shared with Oscar was one of Ghazi’s. As a reward for handling his uncles, Ghazi had given me three properties that had belonged to his late relatives, along with everything inside, including the cars. Not that Ghazi needed more.
The man already owned more properties than he could ever use. I didn’t usually want to stay in the fancy townhouse, but it seemed more suitable for Oscar, especially since he didn’t feel secure in his fancy penthouse. Follow current novᴇls on.net
I’d also been gifted two penthouses, but the commute to his office was longer from those, so I figured he’d appreciate spending less time in traffic. But now, maybe it would be better if we moved to one of the penthouses and made sure he wouldn’t have to walk back from the office, not unless he wanted to ruin his thousand-dollar shoes.
My eyes roamed his body from the bedroom door.

The beautiful man stirred in his sleep. He was still naked and looked sexy as hell, but I really wanted him to get a good night’s rest. I walked back to the kitchen and poured myself a glass of Scotch.
I wanted to rest, but I was afraid I’d be tempted to run my hands over his naked body, and Oscar needed the sleep.
I was on my second glass, sorting through the stacks of paperwork in the home office, when I felt eyes on my back. I didn’t reach for my gun because I knew it was Oscar without even having to turn around.
“Why aren’t you in bed?” His shaky voice was enough to grab my attention, and I turned to look at him. He was only wearing sweatpants and hugging his middle. He looked fragile, his bruised cheek a reminder of how his father had treated him. I hated how his dad had treated him, but I knew there was nothing I could do about it—at least not for now. My possessive side screamed for me to go to him and wrap him in my arms, but my mind told me to be gentle and talk to him about why he was out of bed.
“I’m just sorting out some things,” I said, closing the binders and setting them aside before finishing my glass. “Come on, let’s get you back to bed. I can continue this tomorrow.” I glanced at the office clock—it was well past three in the morning.
I stripped down to my boxers and joined him in our bed. His cold body molded perfectly against mine.
