Between work and even more work, I was feeling overworked.
The pressure of being a mob boss could be overwhelming at times. Robyn was doing her best to be the perfect assistant, staying out of my way since I had been on edge all morning. Zal was feeling the effects of my brooding mood too. He couldn’t escape it, not with one of his men having failed so spectacularly.
The guy panicked and shot at a police officer.
The new recruit was so green that he thought joining the crew meant only dealing with illegal stuff, but all he had been doing was guarding an old storage unit we had recently purchased for one of our city projects. I couldn’t go away for too long, not if I wanted to take Remy with me. He had work to do. I needed to check his schedule, but a couple of hours on my private jet would keep us on track. We could have dinner by the pier or head to the small vineyard cottage I hadn’t visited in so long.
Me: When are you off? My people think I need a vacation.
Tell me you can take at least a week off.
Remy: Monday to Tuesday next week. I can’t take a whole week. I can maybe do four days.
Me: Mm… Four days of a whole lot of you naked. I’m taking it. Pack your bags. Or not. We can shop there.
Remy: I’ll bring clothes. But I predict we’ll be naked more anyway. So…

As expected, Remy was a little reluctant at first, but I kept texting him. I still couldn’t believe how quickly I was becoming addicted to texting him.
There was something thrilling about waiting for his response and hearing the buzz on my phone when his message came through. It was childish, I knew that. But I couldn’t help but love it.
Now, onto the more pressing matter—work. But before that, I passed Remy’s number to Robyn and had her arrange his passport. I told her about my plans and his days off, asking her to confirm everything with him again.
The arrangements brought me back to a time when she had done something similar for me and Oscar. We were so happy back then. I couldn’t believe it… fuck, I need to stop thinking about him. He’s safe. I should let him be.
And Remy? Oh God, why am I doing this to someone else again? Remy was so sweet. He might be tougher than Oscar, but he was still too sweet to get involved with my family. Still, I pushed those feelings aside and focused on the paperwork in front of me.
Later that day, when I met with Zal at the construction site, we discussed the shipment and how the vendors would comply with our rules. He assured me that he would train more people under him. When we were done with the work-related talk, he pulled me aside and mentioned my uncles.
