Chapter 95
Chapter 95:
“No, you’re obviously not a wine guy, but what you are now, is tipsy,” I teased. “I think we should end the tour and head back so you can sleep it off.” I took his elbow gently, ushering him toward the door while he pouted and told Darian he had a cruel boss who wouldn’t let his boyfriend have any fun.
Boyfriend? Remy must’ve realized what he said when he looked at me, his face flushed.
“Okay, we should go,” he murmured, his cheeks pink as he continued, “You’re right. I’m definitely drunk. Um… and forget about the B-word p>
“We’ll talk about it later.” That was all I said, allowing Darian to lead us toward the back exit and straight to our car.
Remy remained quiet when we got back to the cottage. He went straight to our room while I met with my men to get an update on the security details for our departure. It was nearly two hours later when I found Remy cutely snoring. I couldn’t resist, so I scooped him up in my arms. He felt so perfect in my hold, and as I kept him close, my mind wandered back to the little slip of a word he’d said earlier.
Boyfriend.
The last time I had a relationship like this was with Oscar. Do I dare to go down that road again? Do I selfishly want to endanger Remy’s life, just like I did with Oscar? Remy was a fragile, beautiful man—more so than Oscar. Would he survive when I need to end things with him? Yes, the question wasn’t if, but when. It was clear as day that anyone who got close to me would get hurt.
“Hey, you’re awake,” I greeted him when Remy walked out of the room, his clothes still wrinkled from his nap. He yawned adorably as if there was no one else in the room but me. I guess he thought exactly that, because his eyes widened in surprise when he saw four of our guards gathered by the dining table, discussing the best route to the nearest airstrip and making plans for our departure.
“Uh…sorry, I didn’t know you were busy p>
He was about to hurry back to the bedroom, looking flustered, but I grabbed his wrist gently and pulled him to my side. “Stay. You need food to absorb all that wine.” I led him to one of the breakfast stools and began plating our very late lunch while Darian and the others wrapped up their meeting.
“Thank you, guys. We’ll talk again in the morning p>
They left, and suddenly the room was quiet, just like Remy. He got tense and silent, as if he knew something important had been left out. I hated that he had to be kept in the dark, but I really didn’t want to spook him.
“Feeling better after your nap p>
“Yeah, thank you. Not sure if I can eat that much.” He watched as I placed more of the delicious-looking Coq au Vin on his plate.
“Try it first. It’s the chef’s specialty, or so I’ve been told.” I winked and moved to plate the French dish for myself. As expected, he enjoyed the meal and drank his glass of water between bites. We finished in silence and moved to the outdoor seating area to enjoy our coffee and dessert.
“So, what was that all about?” he finally asked after sipping his coffee, ignoring the cake in the middle of the tray.
“The meeting p>
“Oh, that… It was a security assessment for when we get back. Best route to the airstrip and stuff.” I tried to be vague, but I knew I had to clue him in on some of the details, for his peace of mind, if nothing else.
“Stuff?” he asked warily. For original chapters go to.net
“Look, Remy, I paid these guys to be our guards and keep both of us safe.
