Sherry hadn’t expected to encounter someone above her level of mastery.
Just then, Sherry’s phone rang. She answered the call and immediately heard a man say, “I already told you-you can’t live without me. You didn’t believe me then, but you should believe me now, right?”
Sherry let out a mocking chuckle at herself. When she dated Darryl Morales, she had done it out of love. Back then, all her friends warned her that Darryl was too close to his female best friend.
Still, Sherry didn’t believe them. She believed Darryl and his female best friend were regular best friends. Yet everything that followed proved how foolish she had been.
A few days ago, Darryl’s female best friend falsely accused Sherry. However, her then-husband Darryl sided with his best friend and forced Sherry to apologize. When Sherry refused, he threatened to divorce her.
Sherry agreed to the divorce, bringing their marriage to an end. But Darryl relentlessly bothered her.
Sherry closed her eyes and said, “You’re just trying to cut me off from all support, aren’t you?”
After leaving Darryl’s company, Sherry was confident that her skills would land her a decent job. But the truth was they all rejected her immediately after seeing her résumé. That was when she realized Darryl had blacklisted her.
Sherry asked, “There may be some companies that are wary of you, but do you think that’s going to be every single company out there? Right now, I’ve secured a job and completed the hiring process.
“If all goes well, I might stay here until retirement. You’re never going to be able to influence me again.”
Surprised, Darryl asked, “Which company is that? How dare they?”
Sherry chuckled and replied, “Zane Huxham’s company. Please feel free to challenge them.”
At that very moment, Sherry appreciated the work at Huxham
Corporation. At the very least, Annalise was highly capable, and Sherry had much to learn from her. If Sherry ever found herself wanting to leave this company, she could also set up her own business.
Darryl knew who Zane was, and that momentarily halted his arrogance.
Sherry calmly continued, “If you can’t do that, then stop bothering me. After all, the pay is good, and I get a lot of break time. I’m enjoying myself here, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back.”
