At the Capitol, Adam had just gotten off the plane and was now seated in a Rolls- Royce luxury business car when he received a call. It was from Grace.
He pressed the button to answer. “Hello, Mom.”
“Adam, you’re back in the Capitol now, right? Come to Alvarez Residence and have dinner with me.”
Adam would never refuse this request. He nodded. “Alright.”
Soon, the Rolls-Royce pulled up on the lawn of Alvarez Residence. Adam got out of the car and entered the living room.
Grace was sitting on the couch, and next to her was someone else—Carly.
After three years, Carly had become even more dazzlingly beautiful. As the daughter of the wealthiest man in the country, she had certainly been living the high life these past few years.
Grace smiled happily. “Adam, you’re back?”
Carly was just as excited. She immediately stood up and ran eagerly to Adam. “Adam, you’re back!”
Adam hadn’t expected Carly to be here. He pressed his thin lips together, his attitude cool and indifferent. “What are you doing here?”
Grace spoke up. “Adam, Carly knew you were coming back today, so she came early to wait for you. Just look at how thoughtful your fiancée is. I really hope the two of you can get married soon and give me a grandchild to hold.”
Carly gazed at Adam with deep affection and a shy expression. “Mrs. Alvarez, I want to marry Adam as soon as possible too.”
Grace continued, “Adam, I already had someone pick out a few lucky wedding dates. Take a look.”
“No need. I’m not marrying Carly,” Adam declared.
The moment those words fell, both Grace and Carly stiffened.
Adam then turned to Carly. “Carly, a person should know their place. You already know I don’t like you and will never marry you, so stop throwing yourself at me. It only makes me despise you more.”
With that, he strode upstairs.

Carly’s face turned deathly pale. As the daughter of the wealthiest man in the country, she had been placed on a pedestal for the past three’ years. The only person who Could treat her so coldly was Adam.
From behind, she called out, “Adam, is the reason you won’t marry me because of Celine?”
Upon hearing Celine’s name, Adam paused.
Carly pressed on. “You’ve been searching for Celine for the past three years, haven’t you? This time, you left because you were looking for her again, right?”
He didn’t turn around, but he responded, “Yes.”
Carly’s hands clenched into fists at her sides. It had been three years. Carly thought she had won.
Three years ago, when Celine left without a word, Carly believed victory was hers. But even after all this time, Adam still couldn’t forget Celine.
Celine wasn’t even here anymore, yet she remained an unbreakable wall between Carly and Adam.
Celine had done nothing at all, yet somehow, Carly always ended up the one losing.
Carly was absolutely unwilling to accept this.
Grace, sitting in her wheelchair, frowned in displeasure. “Adam, you’ve really lost your mind. That
woman, Celine, left with anothernet
man a long time ago, yet here you are, foolishly waiting for her. You should cherish the one in front of you. Carly is the one who truly deserves you.”
Adam still didn’t turn back. After a brief silence, he said, “The only woman I have ever loved is Celine. That was true in the past, and it’s still true now. It will be true in the future, too.”
With that, he walked upstairs. His tall, imposing figure quickly disappeared into the study.
Carly stood frozen in place, then stomped her foot in anger.
Grace scowled. “Adam is just too stubborn. What’s so good about Celine?”
She turned to comfort Carly. “Carly, that woman is never coming back. Adam will come around eventually. You’re the only daughter-in-law I acknowledge!”
