Owen messaged Aria , but she still hadn’t replied .
He was about to knock on her door when , through the tracked doorway , he heard the sharp sound of a slap .
Instinctively , he fore – walking out now would just be awkward .
The slap had at least masked the noise of the door opening , but now the apartment was so quiet , any sound would be obvious .
He left his door just barely ajar and waited by the entrance .
