In her sleep, Sable became completely uninhibited. Her body sought warmth and comfort without conscious thought, and apparently, I was the most comfortable thing in her bed.

First, her arm slipped across my chest, fingers unconsciously gripping my shirt. Then one leg hooked over my hip, pulling her body flush against mine.

My body’s response was immediate and painful. Blood rushed south as she pressed against me, soft and warm and completely

trusting.

This is going to be the longest night of my life.

Every time I tried to carefully disentangle myself, she would make a small sound of distress in her sleep and pull me closer. It was like she could sense when I was trying to leave, even unconscious.

Around 2 AM, she shifted again, this time settling with her face buried against my neck. Her warm breath sent electricity through my entire nervous system.

Then she started making soft sounds in her sleep. Not quite moans, but breathy little sighs that made my hands clench into fists.

She’s going to kill me, I thought, staring at the ceiling and trying to think about anything except the warm, willing woman wrapped

around me like a second skin.

By 4 AM, I’d given up any pretense of sleep. Instead, I lay perfectly still and watched the play of shadows across her face as the hours passed. The way her lashes cast delicate shadows on her cheeks. The slight part of her lips as she breathed.

When she unconsciously nuzzled closer and let out another one of those soft sighs directly against my throat, I had to bite back a

groan.

This is the sweetest torture imaginable, I thought. Holding the woman I love while she sleeps, knowing I could wake her up and show her exactly how much I want her, but choosing to let her rest instead.

The sky was beginning to lighten when she finally shifted away from me, rolling onto her side and giving me my first full breath in

hours.

I looked down at her peaceful face, hair spread across the pillow like silk, and felt that familiar surge of protective tenderness.

As dawn broke through the windows, painting everything in soft gold, I finally allowed myself to relax. Sable slept on, completely unaware of the havoc she’d wreaked on my self-control.

And despite the ache in my body and the sleepless night, I’d never been happier.

Sable’s POV

My head felt like someone had taken a sledgehammer to it. I opened my eyes slowly, wincing as morning light filtered through the curtains and drove spikes straight into my skull.

What the hell did I drink last night?

I was in my own bed, wearing a soft silk nightgown that definitely wasn’t what I’d put on yesterday.
