Chapter 884

On the way back to the South Family, Keira Olsen and Scarlet South sat in the back seat, with Lewis Horton sitting in the front passenger seat. Hearing this, he glanced at Keira Olsen through the rearview mirror.

The girl’s face was solemn, with light illuminating half of her face while the other half was in darkness, revealing no emotion. Her expressionless face somehow conveyed to Lewis Horton that she was furious.

Keira Olsen was indeed furious, mixed with regret.

The existence of the South Family exceeded her understanding; it seemed like a relic from a past era where the Family Head was the Empress here.

With just a word, someone could be taken away without even a pretense of listing some charges.

Just because her surname is South?

“If you don’t leave and stay here, I won’t be able to protect you. Are you sure you want to stay?”

Scarlet South had calmed down considerably compared to earlier; the girl, with reddened eyes, appeared to have suddenly matured. Despite the panic in her naive eyes, she was learning to handle things like an adult.

Keira Olsen nodded, “I’m not leaving.”

Scarlet South inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief.

Her father was her entire world; his abrupt abduction felt as if the sky had fallen. Though she tried to maintain her composure, she truly lacked experience.

There were many people at home, yet inexplicably she became quite reliant on this outsider named Norma.

As Scarlet South thought of this, a cold hand clasped hers.

Scarlet turned her head and saw Keira Olsen looking at her gently, “Don’t be afraid.”

Scarlet’s cheeks flushed, and she turned her face to the other side, stubbornly saying, “I’m not afraid. I do not believe it. My father hasn’t done anything illegal. How can the Family Head sentence him to death?”

Yet, the hand held by Keira Olsen did not relax its grip.

The car quickly arrived at the South Family’s residence.

As soon as Scarlet South got out of the car, the butler rushed over, “Miss.”

Scarlet South stopped in her tracks, clutching Keira Olsen’s hand tighter without realizing it, “Is there any news about my father? Did you find out anything?”

The butler glanced at their clasped hands, shot Keira Olsen a look, said nothing further, and directly spoke, “We’ve sent everyone to investigate. We only know that Sir was captured at the Cresthaven, where the Family Head is. Additionally, I’ve sent people to inquire from the heads of other branches, and we managed to uncover a useful piece of information.”

Scarlet South asked, “What is it?”

“It appears that Miss Jodie South did not comply with the Family Head’s reproductive plans, which is why Sir was taken as a threat.”

Scarlet South gritted her teeth in anger, “Are all the women of the South Family just reproductive tools? How dare they treat Aunt like this!”

The butler sighed, “The heads of the other branches had no opposition after hearing the Family Head’s response.”

This statement left Scarlet South speechless.

For years, everyone had grown accustomed to women’s existence being to birth the finest heirs for the South Family. As Jodie South was the only direct lineage, if she did not bear children, the direct bloodline might end.

When Thomas South was abducted, the families might have united to condemn the Family Head, but the moment she gave this reason, all families fell silent.

Scarlet South distressingly ran her hand through her hair, “What should we do? Father would never allow Aunt to compromise for him, and even if she were willing, she would have done so long ago! They’re deeply bonded siblings, but what can I do here? Am I supposed to just stand by and watch them suffer?”

The butler sighed again, his eyes displaying a look of confusion.

When Thomas South was around, their direct line already faced immense pressure. Now that he’s been taken, despite Scarlet South being well-protected, even if she wanted to act, there might be nothing she could do. At such a time, who could stand up for this family?

While everyone was lost in thought, the landline phone in the living room suddenly rang.

Scarlet South quickly went to answer it, “Hello, have you found any news about my father?”

Keira Olsen immediately looked over, but in the next moment, whatever was said on the other end of the phone stunned Scarlet South. She directly looked at Keira Olsen, “This call is for you.”

Keira Olsen was taken aback.
