Anne was dressed in an evening gown. She looked elegant and well-maintained, giving her a graceful and gentle appearance.
The two of them entered together, instantly drawing everyone’s attention.
One of the CEOs standing beside Nigel said, “Mr. Hampton, Mrs. Hampton, Ms. Carly has arrived.”
Nigel and Fiona stepped forward. They were very disappointed with this daughter of theirs. “Carly.”
Carly shot a resentful look at Nigel and Fiona. “Don’t say my name!”
The moment she said that, the atmosphere became frosty.
Hailey stepped up. “Ms. Carly, today’s a big, joyful day. You should check your attitude.”
Carly scoffed. “What’s so joyful about today? My parents are making Celine their goddaughter? So now I get to share their love with someone else?”
Her eyes locked onto Nigel and Fiona. “Do you two even see me as your daughter anymore? What does it say about me when you go and make Celine your goddaughter?”
Whispers broke out among the nearby CEOs.
“What’s going on? Ms. Carly doesn’t approve of Mr. and Mrs. Hampton making Celine their goddaughter?”
“Looks to me she just came to stir up trouble.”
“She’s clearly not here to celebrate. She started drama the moment she walked in.”
Carly had definitely not come to show support. Even though Nigel and Fiona had sent her a gilded invitation, she came to crash the party.
Anne was very pleased with Carly’s behavior. Pretending to persuade her, she said, “Carly, let it go. They have every right to choose a goddaughter.”
“Why should I let it go? I’m the real daughter of the Hampton family. Mom, Dad, I don’t agree with you making Celine your goddaughter!” Carly openly voiced her disapproval.
The crowd was stunned. Nigel frowned. “Carly, Celine is already our goddaughter. That’s not something we need your approval for.”
Fiona added, “Carly, your opinion doesn’t change anything. I really think you should learn a thing or two from Celine.
Just look at all the messes you’ve made lately and how many people you’ve hurt.”
Carly’s expression darkened. “Mom, Dad, I’ve said I don’t agree, and you’re still going through with it?”
Nigel and Fiona replied in unison, “Yes. Celine is our daughter.”
Carly’s hands clenched into fists at her sides. Nigel and Fiona had just embarrassed her in front of everyone.
Being the “biological” daughter had never felt more humiliating.
Hailey smirked. “Ms. Carly, those
who walk the right path gain allies. Those who don’t are left alone with none. Instead of throwing a tantrum here, maybe you should use your time to work on your character. Figure out how to be a decent daughter and a person with some integrity.”
Carly loathed Hailey. Her sharp tongue was just like Celine’s.
Carly looked at Nigel and Fiona. “Mom, Dad, you have to make a choice today.”
“What choice?” Nigel asked.
Carly raised her voice. “I don’t like Celine. I’ve made that clear. I don’t want you to make her your goddaughter. So now you have” pick. Between me or Celine, who do you want as your daughter?”
Both Nigel’s and Fiona’s expressions turned cold.
Carly pressed on, relentless, “If you choose Celine, then you’ve completely lost me, your real daughter. Now, make your decision!”
Carly was now forcing Nigel and Fiona to choose.
Whispers filled the air again.
“I didn’t expect Ms. Carly to stir things up at this event.”
“Now they have to choose between their real daughter and their goddaughter. What will Mr. and Mrs. Hampton do?”
