Ivy stood frozen, her mind racing as she processed the chaos unfolding before her.
Madge was a whirlwind of fury, her hands gripping Juliet’s long, flowing hair with one hand while she seized Lottie’s locks with the other. It was as if she had taken it upon herself to engage both girls simultaneously, pinning them down with an unyielding strength that left them utterly defenseless. The sound of their desperate pleas filled the air as Madge unleashed a relentless barrage of scratches, showing no mercy.
Lottie and Juliet, once so full of bravado, found themselves utterly overwhelmed. Their initial confidence evaporated in an instant, replaced by cries for help that echoed through the corridor.
“Stop, stop! It hurts!” Lottie yelped, her voice trembling with panic.
“Don’t pull my hair!” Juliet wailed, her eyes wide with fear.
“Please, don’t scratch my face! I just got my nose done!” she added, her desperation palpable.
Ivy remained a silent observer, her heart pounding in her chest. She had specifically chosen Madge for this very reason—her strength and prowess in self-defense made her the perfect candidate to protect the other girls. And now, Madge was proving herself more than capable.
A small part of Ivy relished the sight before her. Lottie and Juliet had always been a source of irritation, their arrogance grating on her nerves. Perhaps this was the lesson they so desperately needed.
With Madge taking control of the situation, Ivy felt no compulsion to intervene. Instead, she stepped back, allowing the scene to unfold.
The cries of Lottie and Juliet escalated into a cacophony of sobs.
“Stop! It hurts so much! Somebody help! Help us!” Their voices rang out, reverberating through the hallway like a siren’s call.
Madge, undeterred, continued her onslaught, her voice rising above the din. “You shameless homewrecker! How dare you come into someone’s life and wreak havoc, all while acting so high and mighty! You think Ms. Ivy should grovel and apologize to you? Dream on!”
Her words were laced with venom, and she hurled insults that would make even the most seasoned of adults blush.
The commotion drew the attention of the bar owner, who rushed over, a look of horror etched across his face. “Whoa, whoa, what’s going on? Stop! Stop right now!” he shouted, trying to restore some semblance of order.
As the noise swelled, it quickly reached Nathan’s private room, where he was lounging on the couch, blissfully unaware of the turmoil outside. Suddenly, the door burst open, and a frantic voice called out to him. “Mr. Lowe, you need to come out! There’s trouble!”
Nathan lifted his gaze lazily, a hint of annoyance creasing his brow. “What kind of trouble?” he asked, his tone nonchalant.
“That girl who was with you earlier, Lottie. She got into a fight.”
Gasps filled the room as Abbott and the others exchanged bewildered glances. “What? Lottie got into a fight?” Abbott exclaimed, incredulous.
“Yeah. Let’s go check,” the messenger insisted, urgency in his voice.
Yet Nathan remained unmoved, his disinterest palpable. “If there’s a fight, call the police,” he replied with a dismissive wave.
Abbott and the others exchanged glances, their curiosity piqued. “We should go look,” one of them suggested, rising to his feet.
“Who’s Lottie fighting with?” Nathan asked, his voice still lacking any real concern.
“I don’t know. Some stunning woman. I think they called her Ivy or something,” came the reply.
The mention of Ivy’s name sent a jolt through Nathan. He froze, every fiber of his being suddenly alert. “What did you say her name was?” he demanded, his voice sharper now.
“I think it was Ivy. That’s what the woman who was hitting people called her.”
Ivy was here? The realization ignited a fire within him, and he sprang to his feet, abandoning his previous indifference. In an instant, he bolted out of the room, leaving his friends in stunned silence.
“Why does Mr. Lowe care so much about this Ivy?” one of them wondered aloud.
“He looked like someone flipped a switch and just bolted,” another replied, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Let’s hurry and check it out,” Abbott urged, and they all followed Nathan.
As Nathan rushed down the hallway, he could see a crowd had already gathered, the air thick with tension. He pushed his way through the throng, his voice booming, “Stop!”
Madge halted in her tracks, her fists poised mid-air as she recognized Nathan’s commanding tone. The chaos around them seemed to dissipate as Ivy’s eyes met Nathan’s, and for a brief moment, time stood still.
Ivy felt a rush of emotions—relief, anxiety, and a tinge of embarrassment—as she realized he had come for her. She instinctively grabbed Madge’s arm, pulling her back. “Stand behind me. And don’t say a word,” she instructed, her voice firm yet laced with urgency.
Lottie and Juliet were a pitiful sight, their clothes tattered, makeup smeared, and hair in disarray. The moment Lottie caught sight of Nathan, she stumbled toward him, tears streaming down her face. “Mr. Lowe, thank God you’re here! They attacked me! They hit me!” she cried, pointing an accusatory finger at Ivy.
Nathan’s gaze shifted from Lottie to Ivy, and their eyes locked in a silent exchange filled with unspoken questions and unacknowledged feelings. Ivy felt a flush of awkwardness wash over her as she stood there, caught between the chaos and the man who had just rushed to her aid.
