Chapter 525

Zane stood in front of me and said, “Mr. Pelham, she’s my girlfriend. Please watch your boundaries!”
Steven looked Zane in the eye and said, “Mr. Huxham, don’t you think that you’re being wicked? You pursued her when she was in her most vulnerable state, just after our divorce. “You took advantage of her vulnerability; that’s not a very gentlemanly thing to do!”
Zane sneered and asked, “But I never said I wanted to be a gentleman, right?”
Steven was speechless.
Zane continued, “I have priorities different from yours, Mr. Pelham. You may think that being a gentleman is more important, but I prioritize winning the heart of the person I love.
“If I hesitated because I was mindful of my dignity, somebody would win Anna away-she’s amazing, after all. Between being a gentleman whom everyone praised and losing the person I loved, I’d rather be a despicable man. At least, when I feel lonely, my lover would be by my side.”
“I’m sure you said all that because you’re regretting your decision to divorce Anna, right? I swooped in too quickly, and you lost your chance,” Zane said calmly.
Not denying Zane’s statement, Steven said, “You’re right!”
Zane replied, “But even if I didn’t pursue Anna, she wouldn’t have wanted to be with you. After all, every day that she spent with you was torture. You have never been kind to her.” Steven wanted to refute, but he couldn’t because Zane was right.
Willow dashed toward me after walking out of her school. She gazed at me curiously and asked, “Mommy, why is Zachary’s dad at our kindergarten? Do you have something to talk about?” When Zachary heard her words, he gently corrected her and said, “He’s not my dad anymore.”
Upon hearing that, Willow shot Zachary a weird look. Zachary said solemnly, “Next time, you can call him Cody’s dad.”
“Okay,” said Willow.
Willow held my hand warily and pulled me toward the car. She said, “Let’s go home, Mommy.”
I left with Willow, and Zane followed suit.

Zachary was planning to get into the car when Steven stopped him. Steven asked sternly, “Have you contacted Annalise lately?”
Upon hearing that, Zachary frowned hard. He wasn’t sure why his father asked that question, but Zachary honestly answered, “No.”
In disbelief, Steven asked, “But she’s your mom; don’t you miss her?”
“I do, but what difference would it make?” Zachary asked, unfazed.
Zachary continued, “Dad, you were the one who sneakily introduced me to Jessica. It was also you who repeatedly emphasized that Jessica was better than Mom!
“I was just a kid, I couldn’t think for
myself and believed in what you said! After all the brainwashing, I agreed with what you said…” Ultimately, Zachary was still a child. Whenever he thought of what happened, he couldn’t help but feel Wronged.
Zachary said, “Eventually, I distanced myself from Mom and got closer to Jessica. But at what cost?”
With his eyes flushed red, Zachary glared at Steven and snarled, “I ended up becoming Jessica’s accomplice, and we hurt Mom! Now, Mom will never forgive me! How
dare you ask if I miss her?
“So what if I do? If I miss her, will she forgive everything that I’ve done, reconcile with me, and continue to be a loving, doting mother? It’s impossible!
“If that’s the case, why should I appear in front of her and embarrass myself? Shouldn’t I simply watch her from afar, knowing that she’s living a happy life?”
