Casper picked up his phone to find a notification of a bank deposit, and he felt his mind go blank.
Another message from Jessica followed. “I’ve transferred the money. Can you check if you’ve received it?”
Casper replied instantly, “Got it.”
His heart raced. Was Jessica not bluffing? Did she truly care for him? Surely, she wouldn’t have transferred the money if she didn’t have feelings for him.
Casper’s emotions were in turmoil, but he decided to focus on the project for now. As for Jessica’s money, he’d treat it as an investment in the project. Once it started generating revenue, he’d share the profits with her proportionally. He glanced at his balance again, still in disbelief. Initially, he thought Jessica was just talking big and wanted to call her bluff. But she had completely surprised him, leaving him unsure how to respond.

Jessica quickly typed “Yes” on the keyboard but dared not send it. She deleted it just as quickly.
Throughout their marriage, Jessica had always been pampered by Casper. She had never bothered to truly understand him and was simply contented to enjoy his affection. Now, looking at his message, she couldn’t tell if he genuinely wanted her to take the money back or if he was simply testing her.
