The phone rang. Steven reached for the phone and glanced at the caller ID. It was Jessica.
With his eyes shut, Steven asked weakly, “Do you need something from me?”

Steven answered half-heartedly, “I’m okay.”
Jessica had been thinking about everything that had happened between her and Steven. Before that, Jessica believed that Steven actually loved Annalise. But after thinking back, Jessica realized Steven’s change was too sudden.
When Steven was still married to Annalise, he would work during the day and take Zachary to Jessica’s house after work. They would stay at Jessica’s house until the late hours of the night. Even after he got home, he would call Jessica and spend a long time talking over the phone.
