I laughed and replied, “It’s good that you’ve thought things through.”
Suzy replied cheerfully, “I think about these things when I have free time. I should take this opportunity to catch up on work.”
When Suzy stopped replying, I turned to Zane and asked, “What do you think about Willow traveling with her maternal grandparents?”
Since Zane raised Willow by himself, he would have a deeper bond with her. I was curious if Zane found it hard to part with Willow just as I did.
Without hesitation, Zane answered, “When she grows up, she’ll take over the company. At that point, she won’t have time to travel freely.
“Now that she has that time to travel, she should enjoy it to the fullest. Whether it’s with us or her grandparents, what matters is that she enjoys herself.”
I nodded and said, “You’re right. Leisure time is limited in life, and we should appreciate times like that.”
Zane gazed at me and responded, “That’s right.”
Then, I checked the time with my phone-it was past 10:00 pm. I got up and said, “I’m getting sleepy. I’m going to go to bed now.”
Upon hearing that, Zane felt a little regretful, but he didn’t say anything. He simply said, “Alright.”
But as I walked away, he followed behind me. I stopped outside the bedroom and gazed at Zane before I joked, “It’s such a short distance. Did you really need to follow me?” Zane answered earnestly, “Yes.”
When I saw that, I looked serious and said, “This is enough. It’ll be rude if you escort me any further.”
Zane didn’t argue with me. Instead, he said, “Every moment spent with you counts, even if it’s only for a second.”
I paused. At that moment, I suddenly realized that people who had mutual feelings would want to be together all the time.
Meanwhile, Steven and I only spent
a few hours together after he got home from work. He refused to come home immediately, and he would spend a lot of time outside. That showed how little affection he had for me. Yet, Steven claimed that
he loved me.
I wrapped my arms around Zane; he hugged me back and gently patted me on the back. When I pulled away, I tip-toed and landed a gentle kiss on his cheek. I said, “Good night.”
“Mm-hmm.”

When I did the math, I realized Steven and I did not spend a lot time together. During the day, he would be at work. In the evening, after he got off work, he would spend time with Jessica and his friends.
The marriage did not affect his lifestyle. To him, having a wife did not make much of a difference. I was the only person trapped in that marriage. As a housewife, I gave my all to the family and was busy with chores. Meanwhile, they happily enjoyed my service.
At that thought, I chuckled as I lay in bed.
I concluded that no matter who it is for, one should never give their all and show unconditional kindness to the person they love. At the very least, one should learn to love themselves before loving others.
After Chloe left, Steven lay on the couch alone. Without the noise around, his world was terrifyingly silent.
