“But let me finish first,” Sasha said. “Being good-looking helps, but it’s not everything, and you know that.” “Huh?” Shane still looked downcast.
“A man’s success matters, too,” she continued. “Yvonne’s probably with someone else because you haven’t made it big yet. But if you suddenly became the CEO of a major company and reached out to her, she’d act like she hit the jackpot!”
Shane snorted. “I get it. I’ll focus on my career when I go back. And when I’ve made it, I’ll look for her and show her what she missed out on.”
Sasha quickly turned her gaze away, feeling a pang of unease. If he actually did go after Yvonne, it would only leave her puzzled since she had never cared for him in the first place. But Sasha kept that to herself and offered him a bright smile. “Yeah, go for it!”
Still, Shane remained glum.
Sasha noticed and couldn’t help but think he was exactly the type of person who could help her make money.
“We can’t stand out here talking all night. I’ve got some work stuff I need to go over with you. Why don’t you come to my place for a bit?” she suggested.
“Sure,” Shane mumbled.
He followed her into her apartment, where she handed him a glass of water before taking a seat across from him. He still seemed devastated, shedding tears even as he took a sip.
“So, how long do you think we can keep this project going?” Sasha asked.
Shane blinked, clearly not fully processing. “Isn’t it supposed to last for a while?”
Sasha raised an eyebrow. “The only reason these two groups of clients picked us is because they couldn’t find anyone else. We’re working in a small circle here. How do you plan on making money once they find their own partners?”
Shane stared at her, clearly lost. “I-I hadn’t really thought about it.”
Sasha was frustrated when she noticed he was still sobbing. “Stop crying and start thinking, will you?”
However, Shane’s mind was tangled with thoughts of Yvonne, and he couldn’t focus on anything else. He hung his head low. “You brought it
up, so you must have an idea, right?”
“Of course I do,” Sasha answered, scanning his defeated posture with a flicker of disdain. “But, Shane,
you need to get this straight-we’re not friends. We’re enemies.
“I’m only working with you right now because there’s money to be made. Don’t think I’m going to help you make money without any complaints just because you’re heartbroken. Got it?”
For a moment, Shane forgot about his pain, his eyes widening in disbelief. “What do you mean? Are you planning to ditch me?”
Sasha was always swamped with
work and had no patience for unnecessary drama. “That depends on you. If you keep moping around like this, yeah, it’s probably going to happen.”
Shane shot to his feet. “You”
“Go home and think about it,” Sasha said coldly. “No one can focus on business while they’re caught up in heartache.”
“I’ll get it together soon,” Shane replied.
Sasha couldn’t care less about his feelings. “While you’re at it, think about what I said. When you’ve got a solid plan to grow, come back to me, and we’ll figure it out.”
“Alright.”
As Shane walked out of Sasha’s apartment, he felt a slight lift in his mood. He looked up at the moon hanging in the night sky.
He hadn’t really spent much time with Yvonne, at least not until lately. Yet somehow, he’d found himself falling for her, though he couldn’t quite figure out why.
