Otis then uncharacteristically offered, “Order whatever you want. It’s on me.”
Steven quickly waved his hand. “No need. I need to head back to work. I’ll be leaving now.”
Otis watched as Steven’s figure disappeared, and the corners of his lips curled into a knowing smile. He was certain that his plan would succeed.
Back in his office, Steven sat down and carefully mulled over his conversation with Otis.
Otis had promised to make Annalise reconcile with him.
After weighing everything, Steven could only conclude that the chances of success were slim.
Beyond the fact that Otis served time in prison, the real obstacle was Zane.
Zane had built his small enterprise into a business empire that others envied. That alone was proof of his intelligence.
Steven tapped his fingers lightly against the desk. If Zane was around, Otis’ odds of succeeding were close to zero.
Plus, if he got himself tangled up in this mess, it would be difficult to explain himself when things inevitably fell apart.
After much hesitation, Steven finally picked up his phone and dialed Zane.
“Hello?”
“What do you want?” Zane replied coldly.
Steven said, “Annalise’s father reached out to me. Did you know about this?”
Zane remained silent.
Steven felt his heart sink. Zane’s lack of response suggested he knew about it.
Suddenly, Steven felt relief. He was glad he had weighed the pros and cons and chosen to come clean.
Otherwise, his fate would have been anything but pleasant.
Steven continged, “He wants Annalise to marry me, but I know that’s impossible. With you and Annalise together now, I thought it was only right to give you a

After a long silence, Zane finally said, “Thank you.”
Steven, for once, was unexpectedly magnanimous. “Don’t mention it.”
After hanging up, Steven immediately contacted Henry and ordered him to find someone to keep an eye on Otis.
When Steven was done, he leaned back and let out a bitter chuckle.
Back when they were together, he had known full well that Annalise had no money. Yet, he didn’t care and made her struggle alongside him, leading a difficult life. Now that they were apart, he was worried about her.
Steven suddenly found his behavior utterly ridiculous.
Zane stood alone in the conference room, gazing through the floor-to-ceiling
windows at the bustling streets below.
Shortly after, he withdrew his gaze and ordered someone to tail Otis However, he was informed that two groups of people were already following Otis.
One of them was likely hired by Steven. Zane was neither interested in nor concerned about figuring out why Steven did it.
To Annalise, Steven was nothing more than a part of the past. She had been hurt by him too deeply.
No matter what Steven did now, there was no way she would ever go back to him. So, there was no need for Zane to dwell on it.
As for the other group, Zane figured Annalise had to be responsible for that. He turned his head, his gaze falling in her direction.
Zane had always believed that even though Annalise was a woman, she was in no way inferior to a man.
Not only was she constantly preoccupied with her work, but she also had a sharp instinct for detecting hidden dangers and handling them decisively.
