Before Yelena could respond, the man blurted out, “Yes! Call the police right now!”
He had only been trying to help, yet now he was being falsely accused. Naturally, he wanted a proper investigation. But Yelena clearly had no intention of involving the police. “And how do I know you’ll actually call them?”
The event organizer asked, “Then, what do you want us to do?”
“Bring Zane here! He’s the only one who can fix this,” Yelena demanded, finally revealing her purpose.
A hush fell over the crowd. Everyone finally grasped the situation after hearing what she said.
Yelena didn’t trust the police, but she trusted Zane. He was merely a company boss, so she obviously was here because of him.
From the second floor, Zane watched the commotion with an icy gaze. The event organizer quickly approached him, seeking guidance on how to handle the situation.
Zane remained indifferent. “First, have some influential people from the circle get involved. Let’s see if she truly wants justice or is just here for me.”
Following his suggestion, the organizer sent several prominent figures to assure Yelena they would get her justice. But she refused to listen, insisting she would only speak to Zane directly.
The crowd exchanged uncertain glances, unsure of what to do next.
Just then, the accused man pulled out a small surveillance camera he had been wearing on his chest. “Since it’s come to this, we can check the footage.”
Yelena broke down in tears again. “You know this place doesn’t have surveillance cameras!”
The man handed the camera to the organizer. “That’s true, but I brought my own.” The moment Yelena saw the camera, her sobs halted.
Just as they were about to watch the footage and uncover the truth, she suddenly lunged forward, snatching the camera and smashing it to pieces beneath her heel.
“You all just want to watch me be humiliated and end up disgraced in front of everyone, don’t you?” she yelled.
No one knew how to respond, and the room fell into an uneasy silence.
Yelena thought she had destroyed the evidence. Unexpectedly, the large screen in the center of the room flickered to life.
It showed her approaching the man for help, him politely leading her, and then, once they reached a secluded area, she suddenly screamed.
All eyes turned to Yelena. Her face went pale. She had been so sure there were no cameras there.
Scowling, the organizer said, “Ms. Yelena Jamison, I don’t know what you were hoping to achieve by framing one of our guests, but you’ve put me in an impossible position.”
He had worked hard to set up this dinner party and have Zane attend as his guest, but Yelena had forced him into a tough spot in front of everyone.
The organizer continued, “You’ve embarrassed me. I’m not the type to just let this slide. From now on, I’ll use every means at my disposal to blacklist you. Don’t expect things to go easily for you as long as I’m around.”
Yelena’s face darkened. “Are you threatening me?”
“It’s not a threat,” the organizer said, emphasizing each word. “It’s a formal notice.”
Then, with a stern expression, he ordered, “Throw Ms. Jamison out!”
Otis watched from the side, too afraid to say anything.
Yelena was left reeling, wondering how everything had gone so wrong. She looked so much like Annalise. Shouldn’t Zane have stepped in to defend her if she had been taken advantage of?
