Chapter 741
Plenty of beautiful women had tried to win him over before. Zane dropped those words and drove off, leaving Yelena behind. Anger boiled inside her as she watched the car disappear, and she stomped her foot hard.
Turning to Otis, she demanded, “Dad! What now? I did exactly what you told me, but Zane refused to help!”
Otis had a headache of his own. He hadn’t expected there to be surveillance cameras inside, let alone that they’d recorded everything.
Shaking his head, he said, “I don’t know either. We’ll need to find someone to help us.”
“Who?” Yelena asked.
“Jessica.” Otis didn’t bother explaining. He called Jessica right away and brought her up to speed.
Then, he said, “The plan was a bust. Zane saw right through it.”
“Well, obviously. Did you really think he was dumb enough to fall for something that childish?” Jessica said, sounding incredulous.
Otis hesitated for a while before saying, “This isn’t the time for sarcasm. You know Zane better than us.
“Help us figure out what to do next. Otherwise, all that money I put into you goes to waste.”
The only reason Jessica bothered dealing with these idiots was because of the money.
“You still have a partnership with Huxham Corporation, don’t you?” she asked, dropping a hint.
That was all Otis needed to put two and two together. “Oh, right! How could I forget? Alright, I’ll bring Yelena along next time we make a deal with them.”
“Just make sure she acts smart. Zane has no patience for fools,” Jessica warned. Otis shot Yelena a sideways glance. “Got it.”
After hanging up, he let out a deep breath and asked, “Any chance you can get smarter in the next few days?”
Yelena was confused. “What’s that supposed to mean? I’m smart enough, aren’t 1?”
Otis gave her a long look. “I’m afraid even if I handed you the perfect opportunity, you wouldn’t know how to use it. Worse, you’d end up offending Annalise.”
Yelena snorted. “So what if I offend someone like her? What’s the big deal?”
That was when Otis realized Yelena had no clue how formidable Annalise had become.
“Back when she had nothing, she quietly saved up her bonuses, tutored people on the side, and used every cent she earned to start her own business,” he explained.
Yelena looked unimpressed. “Starting a business? Please. Every trust-fund kid I know wants to, but their families do whatever it takes to stop them, afraid they’ll waste their fortune.”
Otis let out a derisive sniff. “Annalise isn’t anything like you or your spoiled friends. Every small company she’s started is still running strong.
projects she’s working on with
pull in hundreds of millions every month.”
Yelena’s eyes went wide at the number. “You’re not making that up, are you?”
Such an amount of money could keep her set for life.
“Why on earth would I make that up? Honestly, was thinking about fixing things with Annalise if you and Zane didn’t work out. That way, even if she and Zane broke up, she could still bring in money to support me.

Yelena was quiet for a long moment before finally saying, “Maybe you should have a backup plan.”
She hadn’t realized just how much Annalise had managed to build for herself over time. Glancing up at Otis, she asked, “What do you think would happen if I went to Annalise now, said a few nice things, and asked her to acknowledge me as her sister?”
