Chapter 106
The money must have come from Yves. And if it was Yves’ money, then it was as good as his now.
Once the contract was signed, he’d reclaim Pine Residences.
Funny-Naomi had wanted him to buy Pine Residences before, and now it was falling right into his lap.
Half an hour later, Lester pulled up to Pine Residences and dropped Lindsay off at the entrance. “Lindsay, call me if you need anything, okay? Don’t try to handle it all alone.”
Lindsay just smiled, saying nothing, and headed quickly into the building.
When she reached the sixteenth floor, Lindsay was startled to see Cheryl waiting right outside her apartment door.
What on earth was she doing here? More importantly, how did she even know where Lindsay was living?
She’d bought this place only a week ago and hadn’t told a soul.
Cheryl spotted her, waved cheerfully, and strode over, grabbing Lindsay’s hand with warm enthusiasm. “I knew you’d end up at Pine Residences.”
Of course they’d fought, and Pine Residences was always Lindsay’s safe haven.
“How did you know I’d be here?” Lindsay asked, suspicion clouding her face. Orıginal content can be found at.net
Cheryl made a show of counting on her fingers, half-joking, “Calculated it with my psychic powers.”
Lindsay wasn’t amused. “That’s not funny, and I don’t believe it for a second.” Her tone was flat, her expression serious.
Cheryl giggled, dropping the act. “Okay, okay. I’m kidding. I tracked your location. That’s how I knew you were here.”
But Lindsay wasn’t buying it. “That doesn’t add up. Even if you could track my phone, how did you beat me here? Shouldn’t you be behind me, not waiting at my door?”
Cheryl’s eyes darted, fingers fidgeting at her nose as she scrambled for a better lie.
“You’d better tell me the truth,” Lindsay warned, her voice cold. “Otherwise, don’t blame me for being inhospitable. Tonight, you’re not coming in.”
Lindsay wasn’t stupid; she knew Cheryl was Yves’ messenger.
Cheryl finally confessed. “Alright, alright. Yves told me. He said you bought a place at Pine Residences and had nowhere else to go, so he figured you’d come here. That’s why I got here first.”
Lindsay’s face turned icy. “So Yves has been watching my every move?”
“No, no, it’s not like that—don’t get the wrong idea-” Cheryl winced, realizing she was only making it worse.
“Look, if you’re here to do Yves’ bidding, you can leave right now. We have nothing to talk about.” Lindsay brushed past her, swiped her keycard, and opened the door.
Cheryl, undeterred, slipped in ahead of her.
Lindsay frowned, her annoyance clear. “I don’t recall inviting you in.”
“I’m not here as Yves’ mouthpiece tonight, I swear! I won’t say a single word to bother you.” Cheryl’s tone softened, her posture shrinking. “Truth is, my parents tried to set me up on another blind date. When I refused, they kicked me out.” She squeezed out a couple of tears, looking utterly pitiful.
Lindsay didn’t buy it for a second. “Please. The great Ms. Green has nowhere to stay? No penthouse suites left in any of the city’s hotels?”
“Staying in a hotel alone is just too lonely. Unless you’ll stay with me?” Cheryl clasped her hands, gazing at Lindsay with pleading eyes.
Lindsay just shook her head, exasperated. “Fine. But tonight, you’re a mute. If I hear a single word about certain people from you, you’re out on the street.”
