Chapter 62 A Double Life

She nodded again.

Jasper issued his commands like an emperor, and she committed each one to memory.

Finally, he pointed wearily to a room. “In there p>

She walked toward the room in the farthest corner.

Pushing open the door, she glanced inside. It was spacious and very clean, with a bed, a wardrobe, and a full set of new furniture. It looked as if no one had ever lived in it.

If it weren’t for the fact that this was Jasper’s house, she would have been happier.

She asked to go back and get her things. Jasper agreed and even arranged for bodyguards to accompany her.

There wasn’t much in the rented room, just a few changes of clothes and some cheap toiletries. She packed everything into one bag and, while she was at it, argued forcefully with the landlord until she got a refund for the remaining rent.

Clutchching the small amount of cash, she took a detour to the restaurant.

After the recent vandalism, the small restaurant’s business was clearly suffering. The decor was all pieced together, and even the tables and chairs were a mended, mismatched set.

She put the money into a cloth pouch, hurled it through the open door, and then turned and

ran.

The bodyguards following her looked completely bewildered but followed her away.

The restaurant owner’s wife picked up the pouch. She opened it and saw nearly a thousand yuan inside. Startled, she rushed out to find the person, but the street was empty.

The owner’s wife seemed to guess who had thrown it, let out a heavy sigh, and went back inside.

Tatiana returned to Maple Manor and officially settled in.

But living under the same roof as Jasper, she was completely ill at ease. Unless absolutely necessary, she tried not to leave her room or appear in his presence.

Jasper soon realized he hadn’t run into her even once.

After checking the house’s surveillance footage, he discovered that she left every day before he

woke up and only came back long after he was asleep.

Leaving carly and returning late, sneaking around.

He narrowed his eyes, his expression darkening.

As Tatiana cautiously pushed open the door and crept through the dark living room, a cold voice rang out: “Where did you go p>

Her heart leaped in fright. She whipped her head around and saw a figure sitting on the sofa, radiating a heavy, low pressure in the darkness.

She froze, then slowly turned. “You… you’re still awake p>

Jasper turned on the light. When he got a clear look at her outfit, his pent–up impatience vanished. The corner of his mouth almost twitched into a smile, but he forced it down.

“What the hell are you supposed to be p>

Tatiana’s face was covered in thick, colorful greasepaint, like a clown’s. She was also wearing a cheap, comical mascot costume.

She looked down, embarrassed, and whispered, “Did I… disturb you? Next time… I’ll come back even later p>

To avoid him, she had barely spent any time in the house, rushing around outside all day.

She needed money, desperately. She couldn’t just stay in her room. So, she had found a job that paid daily: dressing as a clown to hand out flyers and balloons on the street, making passersby laugh.

Although it was exhausting and difficult, the pay was decent, and it required no qualifications, so she was content doing it,

Unexpectedly, Jasper’s expression darkened. “You’re pregnant and you’re still putting your body through this? Are you trying to die p>

She was baffled, her eyes blank.

Realizing how that sounded, Jasper awkwardly changed his tune: “Making a fool of yourself in public p>

Tatiana defended herself in a low voice, “No one recognizes me. My face is covered p>

Hearing her talk back, his face grew even darker. “Tatiana, dressing like that, as a clown… where is your dignity p>

He shot to his feet and snapped, “If you’re out past nine, don’t bother coming back. This isn’t your personal shelter, where you can come and go as you please p>

After he went upstairs, Tatiana slowly returned to her room. She wiped off the greasepaint, revealing her pale face underneath.

She forced her exhausted body to hand–wash the costume and hang it to dry. As she turned, the world spun, and a loud ringing filled her ears.

She almost fell, flinging out a hand to catch herself. She knocked over a glass and collapsed to the floor with a loud crash.

Jasper, who had just reached his study, heard the noise. His face darkened. Thinking she was throwing a tantrum and making noise on purpose, he strode over.

“Tatiana! Who gave you the nerve p>

His words died in his throat.

He saw Tatiana crumpled on the floor, her eyes shut, her face frighteningly pale.

“Tatiana p>

He scooped her up. She was frighteningly light in his arms. Where he touched, there was no flesh, only bone.

He laid her on the sofa and called his private physician.

He looked down, saw her jacket was soaked, and went to take it off.

The moment his hand got close, she began to tremble, curling into a tight ball, her brow furrowed as if trapped in a nightmare.

Her small, pale face looked so weak it was almost pitiful.

She was so pale, her skin nearly translucent, revealing the faint veins in her neck. She looked fragile enough to break, yet she possessed an unbreakable resilience.

He used to despise the sight of her. She was everywhere. From the moment she was brought to the family estate at age six, she had latched onto him, shameless and impossible to drive away.
