Chapter 317
Rylie finally looked over, her expression calm. Her gaze swept past Marsha without pause, showing no reaction as she continued walking in the direction of the interview room.
The moment Marsha saw Rylie reach for the office door, she stepped forward and called out to the interviewer she had spoken with earlier, her tone rising sharply. “You just told me everyone has to wait for their number to be called before going in. So why is she allowed to walk right through the door? Are you letting her skip ahead? Giving her special treatment like it’s nothing? Do you think you can get away with that? Aren’t you afraid of losing your job?” Marsha had already made up her mind; if they dared to let someone bypass protocol right in front of her, she would not hesitate to expose her identity and remove them one by one through proper channels.
The interviewer she had confronted turned to her with a condescending glance, as though she were being ridiculous. “Miss, if you keep speaking to the interviewers in that manner, we’ll have no choice but to return your resume and disqualify you.”
Marsha felt heat rise to her face. What was he talking about? She hadn’t even submitted a resume, so how could they return it?
“Just let it go, alright? That girl looks like a student. Don’t jump to conclusions,” one of the other job seekers, trying to ease the tension, offered a quiet word of advice.
Another candidate leaned in, studying Marsha’s features with curiosity before speaking. “You’re Marsha, aren’t you? From the Wilde family? The one people call the Genius Healer of Crolens?”
Marsha’s posture lifted instinctively, her shoulders straightening with practiced poise. She gave a faint, elegant smile. “Yes, I am.”
Someone immediately shot her a cutting question. “This hospital used to belong to the Wilde family, right? Weren’t they involved in a lot of shady dealings? How are you not in jail?”
Marsha’s face tensed for a moment, but she quickly composed herself. “I don’t concern myself with family scandals. My focus is on healing people. Once the authorities confirmed I had nothing to do with those matters, they let me go.” The crowd’s expressions shifted slightly, no longer as wary as before.
“So, what position are you here for?” someone asked curiously.
Marsha’s lips curved faintly, her tone carrying a trace of self-assurance. “Director of the hospital.”
Recognizing her from the way she carried herself, many assumed Marsha was tied to the board and had likely been appointed in advance. Their gazes grew more certain with that assumption.
Before long, a small crowd began forming around her. Everyone wanted to strike up a conversation, eager to make a good impression. Surrounded by admiration, Marsha once again found herself in the limelight.
She soaked in the attention, her earlier frustration fading with each passing second. Her eyes drifted toward the interview office. Rylie had entered some time ago but had yet to reappear.
However, the applicants coming out of the room were casting her strange, unreadable looks.
Eventually, the crowd dispersed and the interview area quieted. After nearly two hours of waiting, Marsha could no longer remain seated. She stood and called over a woman she had spoken to earlier.
