Chapter 849
Hearing this, Orion instinctively frowned.
The office door was open, and the staff in the secretarial department glanced at each other with barely concealed curiosity. What on earth was going on? Had Mr. Everhart just tossed Ms. Sinclair aside?
Orion remained impassive. “Please show Ms. Sinclair out.”
There was nothing left to discuss between him and Sophia.
The secretary approached her. “Ms. Sinclair, would you please step outside for now? Mr. Everhart still has business to attend to.”
“Step aside. Nothing is more important than what I have to say.”
Sophia brushed past the secretary and confronted Orion directly, lowering her voice.
“Did you really think I wouldn’t find out what you did to my mother?”
Orion looked up at Sophia and motioned for the secretary to close the door and clear the room.
He was genuinely curious how Sophia had learned of this.
Once the door clicked shut, Sophia went on, “So it really was you.”
She hadn’t wanted to believe it, but now doubt gnawed at her.
If Orion were truly uninvolved, why would he force everyone else to leave the room so suddenly? That could only mean a guilty conscience.
She looked at Orion in disbelief. “How could you do something like this? My mother always treated you so well-she thought of you as family.”
These past weeks, Sophia was on the verge of falling apart. Ever since her mother disappeared, the household had been in chaos.
She had suspected her mother’s old accomplices, she had suspected the Langston family, but Orion had never once crossed her mind.
Orion’s face was calm. “Compared to your mother hiring someone to kill, does any of this even matter?”
“You admit it? You actually admit it, Orion. I’m so disappointed in you.”
Seeing that Orion offered no denial, Sophia’s heart sank. She had confronted him hoping he’d argue back, but instead, he confessed.
“Orion, you went to these lengths for Lemira. Does Mrs. Amanda know? If she knew what you did, would she still accept Lemira in her life?”
“Why shouldn’t she? Given everything your family did years ago, how is what I’ve done any worse?”
“But my mom was always so good to you. How could you even think of doing something like this?”
Orion’s gaze turned ice-cold. “And what about how your mother schemed against the Everhart family?”
Sophia’s eyes darted evasively. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Since you claim not to understand, let me spell it out-back then, the reason was in that car… can you honestly say your mother hadnt arranged that on purpose?”
Orion stood up, staring her down. “Your mother dragged the Everhart family into
this, didn’t she? What right do you have to accuse me?”
The Sinclairs had always intended for the Everhart family to step in and clean up the aftermath of the accident.
Remembering the crash, Orion felt a fresh wave of anger, wishing he could make the Sinclairs pay in full.
Sophia went pale and started to panic-she had never imagined Orion had already pieced everything together. No wonder he was supporting Lemira.
Did this mean he, too, intended to uncover what really happened years ago? If so, the Sinclairs were finished.
With reddened eyes, Sophia shook her head hard. “It was just an accident. My mother didn’t do that? Even when she was abducted she never gave up your name as being in the car, did she? Doesn’t that prove her innocence?”
Thank goodness her mother had never revealed Orion’s presence in the car.
“Your mother can never be innocent of hiring a hitman.”
Sophia pressed on through gritted

teeth. “It was just business competition-that’s all. My mother never wanted Lemira’s parents. dead. It was an accident, they were just unlucky. The driver betrayedther, trying to use it to blackmail our family for more money, that’s it.”
These words were identical to what Mrs. Amelia had said before.
