Chapter 825
When Lemira suddenly caught sight of a woman who looked remarkably like that “two-faced” girl Evelina, her heart skipped a beat.
Was it really just a coincidence?
She didn’t bother to hide the shock on her face. Stella, noticing Lemira’s surprise, quickly stepped in to smooth things over. “Felipa, Lemira is one of my closest friends. She’s just a bit taken aback to see you here.”
Felipa smiled gently. “It’s my fault for coming back without warning. I heard what happened here, and I wanted to check on you myself.”
That brought Lemira back to her senses.
She glanced at the elegant, young woman, quickly schooling her features. “Stella has mentioned you to me before.”
“Has she? It’s a pity there’s not much I can do to help Stella, but at least being here to see her in person makes me feel better.”
With that, Felipa stood up. “Well, I’ll head back for now. If there’s anything you want to do about the Waverlies, just know that I’ll be on your side.”
Stella’s eyes turned red as she tried to hold back tears. “Thank you, Felipa. I really appreciate it.”
“No need for thanks,” Felipa replied softly. “Your brother and I both count on you-in the end, we’re only well if you are.”
Standing aside, Lemira observed Felipa more closely. On second glance, Felipa didn’t actually resemble Evelina that much—maybe just a similarity in their features and eyes, a faint passing resemblance.
After all, it’s not unheard of for people to look alike in this world. It really wasn’t all that unusual.
Once Felipa finished speaking, she left the dorm.
Lemira walked over to close the door, then turned to Stella. “What brought her back so suddenly?”
She had heard about Stella’s young stepmother before-how she had stayed overseas for years with her ailing son, never returning, almost as if she didn’t exist. Even during Stella’s engagement party, her stepmother hadn’t shown up.
And after Stella’s falling out with Mrs. Waverly, she hadn’t mentioned her stepmother ever again.
For her stepmother to suddenly reappear now did seem odd there must be a reason behind it.
Stella shook her head. “I don’t know either.”
“How much do you really know about her?” Lemira asked, hesitating for a moment as doubt crept into her thoughts.
Stella looked up. “I know what you’re worried about. They do look a bit alike, but I don’t think there’s a real connection. Felipa has been with my father for many years.”
Truth be told, seeing her stepmother just now had startled Stella as well.
After so many years apart, it had been a shock to discover how much Felipa resembled Evelina.
Lemira understood what Stella meant. If Felipa had been married to Stella’s father for so long, she was unlikely to have any ties to the Black family.
Lemira recalled the results of their earlier investigation into Evelina: the “two-faced” girls mother came from a poor background and had disappeared after fleeing domestic violence.
No matter how you looked at it, there was no way Evelina’s mother could suddenly
have become the mistress of the affluent Waverly family.
Besides, the Waverlies had a
background in journalism-if anyone could get to the bottom of things, it would be them. If Felipa actually had a connection to the Black family, it would have been exposed by now.
Finally, Lemira was able to relax.
Standing nearby, Oanice chimed in, “Honestly, was a little freaked out too. For a second I thought she had something to do with Evelina, but guess it was just a resemblance. Happens all the time-even celebrities who lookalike.
sometimes have nothing to do with each other.”
Lemira nodded. “You’re right. Maybe I am just overthinking things.”
The Black family had always been too cunning for her to ever let her guard down.
Lemira knew she would never truly feel at ease until she saw both the Black family and the Sinclair family behind bars.
