Chapter 758
“Shut up.”
Lemira’s gaze turned instantly glacial. “My parents are dead. The only thing that will bring them peace is watching their murderers face justice.”
“You really are a hell-bent avenger. Good. That makes my job much easier.”
Lemira stood up, smoothing the front of her jacket. “Mr. Bennett, since you are now my legal counsel, I highly suggest you stop testing my resolve. It makes you look incredibly unprofessional.”
Sebastian scoffed lightly. “Don’t worry, Ms. Langston. You’ll see my professional capabilities soon enough in the courtroom. That is, after all, why you hired me.”
“Excellent. Contact me immediately if you have any questions while reviewing the files.”
Lemira turned and walked out of the office. With the lawyer situation finally settled, the crushing weight on her chest lifted slightly.
Stella was waiting in the reception area. Seeing Lemira emerge, she rushed forward. “How did it go?”
“It’s done. He’s taking the case.”
“I knew he would!”
Lemira knew this wasn’t the place to talk. She grabbed Stella’s arm and they headed for the elevator.
Standing in the doorway of his office, Sebastian watched the two women leave. His eyes flicked to the tall, imposing man standing near them, who clearly moved like a bodyguard.
In a split second, the bodyguard’s eyes locked onto Sebastian’s. The man’s gaze was predatory and dangerous.
Sebastian chuckled softly to himself. What exactly was Orion Everhart playing at?
Had Orion deliberately orchestrated Lemira coming to him?
Whatever the billionaire’s twisted game was, Sebastian didn’t care. He was going to give this war against the Sinclairs and the Everharts everything he had.
Outside the building, Lemira finally let her curiosity win.
She looked at Stella. “So, what’s the actual beef between Attorney Bennett and Orion?”
“There’s definitely bad blood, but
mostly rumors. I wasn’t sure if it was
true. But since he signed the
ors are
contract that easily the rumors
Besike
probably spot on.”
“Spill it.”
Stella glanced at Caleb, intentionally not lowering her voice. “A few years ago, Sebastian worked at the Everhart Group. Word is, he fell. for thisgirl, but the girl was obsessed with Orion. She strang Sebastian along, deliberately using m to make Orion jealous When Sebastian found out he was just a pawn, he exploded and quit the company on the spot.”
“Wow. Who was the girl?”
“No idea. I think Orion ultimately rejected her too, and she ended up leaving the company. Back then, the Sinclair sisters were constantly
hovering around Orion. They made sure no other women survived in his orbit.”
Over the years, many women had tried to get close to Orion, only to be covertly terrorized and driven away by the Sinclair family.
Eventually, every woman in their elite social circle learned that approaching Orion meant inviting the wrath of the Sinclairs.
Lemira had guessed the feud was personal, but she hadn’t expected a messy love triangle.
She probed a little further. “So what happened to Sebastian and the girl?”
“Nothing. It ended there. Honestly, Sebastian is so arrogant and full of himself, what woman could actually tolerate him long-term?”
Lemira paused, thinking it over. “To be fair, objectively speaking, Attorney Bennett is a total catch.”
Stella grinned wickedly. “You know, if you ended up dating Attorney Bennett, it would absolutely destroy a certain someone.”
Walking slightly ahead of them, Caleb stiffened visibly at the comment. He glanced back at the two women, feeling an overwhelming wave of sympathy for his boss.
Lemira knew exactly who Stella was referring to. She tilted her face up toward the autumn sun and said smoothly, “It’s honestly not a bad idea.”
Caleb mentally lit a candle for Orion.
It was going to be a blazing inferno of jealousy.
