She searched for her phone but came up empty. Then she remembered–he had pulled her into his arms the moment they stepped inside. He carried her to the bedroom, took off her coat, and tossed it onto the floor. Her phone was probably still in the pocket. After that, she hadn’t had a second to think about anything else.
Covering her face with both hands, she rolled under the covers, her embarrassment bubbling over. Just as her face burned and her ears turned hot, she heard the faint sound of the doorknob turning.
Her instincts kicked in. She snapped her eyes shut and pretended to be asleep.
