Chapter 54
The rest of the dinner was silent, with everyone eating quietly.
Only Tatiana struggled, every bite feeling like swallowing glass. Read full story at
After the meal, a server approached and said something to her grandfather, whose expression turned to surprise. “You all go ahead and look around,” he said. “An old friend of mine is here, and I’m going to say
hello. No need to wait for me p>
His grandfather left, and the others began to disperse.
Barry was the first to leave. He didn’t even hear Marilyn trying to stop him and just drove off, as if rushing to see someone important.
Marilyn thought of his “little canary” on the side and nearly ground her teeth to dust.
Minnie tried to join her brother, but her mother grabbed her hand. “We’re going home p>
She had no choice but to follow her mother, resentfully.
With no outsiders present, the act was over. Jasper’s face returned to its usual coldness. He said, “Watch what you say in front of Grandfather. Agree to whatever he asks. Understand p>
Tatiana kept her head down and said nothing.
His gaze
turned cold. “Are you deaf p>
After a moment, she answered in a hoarse voice, “I… understand.” She then stood and walked out, her steps quick and unsteady.
Jasper, annoyed by her attitude, followed, only to see her dive into the restroom.
He stopped, frowning, and faintly heard the sound of retching.
Does she despise me that much?
He didn’t know that inside the restroom, Tatiana was vomiting violently. As she threw up, she kept scratching at her neck and shoulders, as if countless ants were biting her, itching and hurting.
She felt awful. Her vision began to blur, and she couldn’t stand steadily. She fell hard, and if she hadn’t grabbed the sink, the fall would have been worse.
The loud crash of a falling mop stopped Jasper in his tracks.
He paused, then burst straight into the women’s restroom. He saw Tatiana collapsed on the floor, her face deathly pale. Her exposed neck and arms were covered in a red rash, and her breathing was rapid and shallow, as if she couldn’t get enough air.
“Tatiana p>
He swept her up in his arms and strode out. “Doctor! Quick! Get a doctor over here p>

When the doctor arrived, he recognized it at a glance as an allergic reaction, and a severe one. She had to be sent to the hospital immediately.
“An allergic reaction p>
Jasper hadn’t expected this. He looked down at the rash already spreading to her face, and his heart tightened.
“To the hospital p>
Because the reaction was too severe, there was no time to go to the hospital the Jackson family funded. They went to the nearest one.
The doctor saw the severity of her symptoms and immediately asked for details about the allergen and her medical history.
Tatiana, still holding on to a thread of consciousness, forced out an answer: “Green beans. I’m allergic to green beans p>
Jasper, standing to the side, whipped his head around to stare at her. “Why didn’t you say you were allergic to green beans p>
Tatiana lowered her head, pulling at the corner of her lips. Enduring the pain of the reaction, she said softly, “I did p>
She had. More than once.
She had always been allergic to green beans. The only two severe reactions she’d had in her entire life were both because of him.
One was when she was eight. He, annoyed by her clinging, heard she was allergic and had the nanny make rice with green beans, coaxing her to eat it. She ate it foolishly and spent half a month in the hospital.
One was the year they had just married. She was at a banquet, and Bianca, knowing about her allergy, hypocritically served her green beans. He forced her to eat it, so as not to “disappoint” Bianca’s “kindness.” She ate it and almost died.
This was the third time. He had personally served her the dish.
And she still ate it. Refusing would have only caused more trouble. Her life was worthless anyway.
Jasper’s gaze darkened, his lips tightening. He seemed to recall the past. A flicker of self–blame rose, only to be suppressed by anger. “If you’re allergic, why didn’t you refuse p>
Tatiana’s eyes were dull. She said sarcastically, “If I had refused back then, you would have gotten angry. Very angry. And the consequences for me wouldn’t have been any better p>
He was speechless.
Just then, the doctor quickly ordered medication and an injection. As the nurse came to give the shot, she asked the routine question, “Is there any chance you’re pregnant p>

Jasper answered instinctively. “She can’t be pregnant p>

As he said it, he suddenly remembered the incident with Bob. A wave of fury washed over him. His gaze turned to ice. He changed his tune. “Test her p>
It had been half a month since the incident with Bob. A test would work.
Tatiana snapped her head up, staring at him in disbelief. “I’m… not p>
That time… she had washed herself thoroughly. Besides, her body was broken. It was almost impossible for her to get pregnant.
But Jasper said sharply, “Test her p>
The nurse had no choice but to take Tatiana to be tested for pregnancy first, completely ignoring the fact that her severe allergic reaction could lead to shock.
Tatiana’s struggles were useless. She was held down, and her blood was drawn for the test.
However, when the results came back, she was thunderstruck.
“Miss, you’re pregnant. And the pregnancy is unstable. It’s a good thing we found out in time, or this could have been a disaster. You need to be more careful from now on p>
