Chapter 56
V
57 A Narrow Escape
Jasper’s expression darkened visibly.
“Catch her p>
Tatiana ran desperately from the hospital, not even caring that she’d lost her shoes. But with her limp, she couldn’t run fast.
She glanced back. The bodyguards were already catching up.
She looked around in a panic, desperate to hide. She turned a corner and ran straight into someone.
“Tatiana p>
It was Chandler!
“Save me p>
“What’s wrong p>
Before she could answer, Chandler saw the bodyguards chasing her. His expression changed. He shoved Tatiana into a nearby car. “Hold on p>
He floored it, peeling away from the curb.
The bodyguards only managed to clock the license plate. They couldn’t possibly catch up.
When Jasper was informed, he immediately ordered them to trace the car’s owner.
In the car, Tatiana was still in shock.
“Who was chasing you? What happened?” Chandler asked, worried.
He could see she was covered in a cold sweat, her face deathly pale.
She shook her head, silent.
“I’ll take you home. Your place p>
“I can’t go back!” she shrieked.
Jasper knew where she lived. Going back now would make her a sitting duck.
Afraid of upsetting her further, Chandler immediately changed tack. “Okay, okay, not your place. Let’s go to mine, then. I live alone. You don’t have to worry p>
She nodded faintly. “I’m sorry to trouble you.” Find the newest release on fıp>
“It’s no trouble. You don’t have to be so polite p>
The car turned and headed directly to Chandler’s apartment.

He lived alone in a spacious luxury apartment. The entire place felt empty, decorated in cool tones. It was clear almost no woman had ever set foot in it.
“Come in. Here are some slippers. I’ll get the first–aid kit p>
He had seen her bare feet. They were black with grime and cut up from stones, a terrible sight.
She looked down at the clean white floor, then at her own feet, and took a step back. “I’ll… I’ll get it dirty p>
Chandler softened his voice. “It’s just a floor. It doesn’t matter. A cleaning lady comes every day. Please, come in p>
She had no choice but to put on the slippers and step inside.
“Do you want to wash them first? I’ll get the antiseptic p>
She went into the bathroom and slowly washed her feet, pulling out the bits of stone and glass embedded in the flesh. The pain brought tears to her eyes.
Chandler walked over and was startled when he saw what she was doing. “Tatiana! Don’t do that p>
He lifted her up, carried her to the sofa, and set her down. He frowned at her bleeding feet. “Doesn’t that hurt? Don’t treat it like that, it’ll scar p>
“It’s fine. It doesn’t matter p>
“It does. You have to take care of yourself p>
Chandler spoke with great seriousness as he knelt to disinfect and bandage them.
She wasn’t used to this. She tried to pull her foot back, but he held it gently. “Don’t move. We need to stop the bleeding p>
Chandler focused on cleaning her wounds.
She stared blankly. It had been so long since anyone had been this kind to her.
“The bleeding’s stopped. But you should try to stay off this foot. Let it heal a bit before you walk on it p>
She nodded, “Thank you p>
“You don’t have to be so formal. But who were those people chasing you today? Did you cross someone? Don’t be afraid. Tell me, and I’ll help you p>
She shook her head. “You can’t help me p>
His eyes flickered. “Tatiana… is it Jasper p>
She froze. How does he know?
“I asked around. You and he… you got married, didn’t you p>
Chandler’s tone was perfectly level, but his hands, hanging at his sides, were clenched into tight fists.
Although he had expected it, hearing the truth still made him jealous.
Jasper had the person he cherished, but he didn’t know how to treasure her. He’d actually sent her to that place for four years!
Tatiana shook her head frantically. “No! We’re… we’re divorced. We’re in the cooling–off period p>
He snapped his head up, almost unable to hide the joy on his face. “Divorced p>
She nodded.
“Then why is he still chasing you p>
She covered her stomach, a near–instinctive gesture.
Chandler’s gaze followed hers. “Is your stomach bothering you p>
She nodded vaguely. “Mhm. I’m just hungry p>
“Wait here. I’ll have someone deliver something p>
Chandler stood up and made a call, asking his assistant to bring over a meal, making sure to ask for something mild.
When he turned back, he found the girl on the sofa had already fallen asleep.
She was curled up in a small ball, sleeping fitfully.
He got a blanket and gently draped it over her, looking down at her sleeping face.
Only then did he let his suppressed emotions show, his eyes overflowing with deep affection.
He had a crush on Tatiana back then. It was never just friendship.
But he was ‘forced‘ to study abroad and never got to tell her how he felt.
Thank goodness he was back.
Bzz… Bzz…
The phone on the table vibrated.
He glanced at it and walked to the balcony to answer.
“Hello? Mom p>
“Where are you p>
“At the office. What’s wrong p>
“Come home. Immediately p>

“I’m busy right now. I’ll be back later”
“Is it a company matter, or a personal one p>
