A team of professional investigators was immediately dispatched.
Far away at Westport Rehab, Rowan shivered, suddenly overcome with a terrible premonition.
Meanwhile, Tatiana was still diligently handing out flyers. She was wearing the thick, stuffy mascot costume, her clothes underneath completely soaked with sweat.
After she finished a stack of flyers, she found a bench to rest. She pulled off the heavy mascot head, revealing her pale face, strands of hair plastered to her skin.
She calculated how much money she had earned today. It was almost enough to pay back the female police officer. If there was any left, she would send it to the restaurant.
It still wasn’t enough for her medicine.
She sighed deeply.
Gathering her strength, she prepared to hand out the rest of her flyers. She didn’t notice an old, battered van pull up in front of her.
By the time she looked up, the doors had slid open. Two burly men got out. A wave of fear washed over her, and she spun around to run.
But the heavy costume restricted her movements. She hadn’t gone more than a few steps before she was grabbed, dragged, and thrown into the van. The doors slammed shut, and the van sped off.
Tatiana’s hands and feet were bound with rope. She was completely helpless.
She looked at the strangers in terror, forcing herself to remain calm. “Who… are you? I don’t… know you. ”
The men didn’t speak. The driver drove at high speed, taking a winding, roundabout route, as if trying to throw off anyone who might be following.
The van finally stopped at an abandoned warehouse.
