The Alpha’s Unclaimed Mate Chapter 366

Chapter 366 Triangle Of Shut The Fuck Up

Elara clocked their reactions and did not like any of them.

Three mages, three expressions, and the common denominator across all of them was a silence that carried weight she was choosing to leave on the floor.

“His color is coming back,” Elara said, with the particular brightness of a woman single-handedly steering a conversation away from a cliff. “Which is wonderful news. Maybe whatever it was just passed through his system naturally.”

“Did she use her blood?” Alaric asked.

Relief crashed through Elara so hard she nearly swayed. Yes. The blood. That was the issue. That was the crime she had spent ten minutes burying. The dagger under the bed. The rag in the bathing chamber. The blanket in the closet. The blood she had wiped from Gav’s mouth and Serena’s hand. That was the question, and that question had an answer she had rehearsed.

“I don’t think so. I found her like this,” Elara replied.

She held the lie the way she held everything: with composure, with precision, and with the full understanding that the woman asleep in the chair three feet away would have immediately confessed if she were conscious, and Elara was never, ever going to let that happen again.

She sat in the chair near the bed. Her posture was casual. Her spine was ready to launch her across the room and land on top of a Gamma if a single one of these men reached for that bandage.

Playing it cool.

Maelor sighed. The sigh carried the particular weight of a man who had been summoned away from a deeply unpleasant execution to examine a patient he had publicly declared zero emotional attachment to and was now being asked to perform medicine he hadn’t planned on performing.

“I will take a look.”

He crossed to the bed. His hands came up, and emerald magic flared from his palms, sinking beneath Gavriel’s skin with the clinical precision of a scan designed to read everything beneath the surface and report back without editorial.

The scan lasted eight seconds.

Maelor looked at Hyran. The look he gave carried a full conversation at a frequency Elara was excluded from, and the exclusion was deliberate, and she was fine with it. Thrilled, actually. The less anyone said out loud, the fewer things existed to be repeated.

Hyran remained silent. He dragged a hand down his face. The drag was slow, comprehensive, covering his entire expression and emerging on the other side with a face that had been wiped of everything except exhaustion.

Alaric looked at Hyran. Then at Maelor. The triangle of eye contact between the three of them completed a full rotation without producing a single word.

“Is he better?” Elara asked.

“Yes,” Alaric answered. His voice was dry enough to start a fire. “Miraculously.”

“Excellent.” Elara clasped her hands together. The clasp was bright, efficient, the gesture of a woman who had received the answer she wanted and was fully prepared to close the book on this conversation before anyone opened another Chapter. “Does that mean the dark magic is gone?”

Hyran turned his head slowly towards her.

“Yes. I don’t feel any.”

There was more to that statement than the statement. Elara could hear it sitting behind his teeth, the unspoken second half of a sentence that would have changed the room if he had finished it. He didn’t finish it. Whether that was because he lacked evidence, or because the evidence required a conversation none of them were ready to have, or because he was simply exhausted and crabby and had just watched an execution, Elara did not know and did not need to know.

If none of them said it out loud, then none of them were omitting anything from anyone. That was the math. The math was clean. She was keeping it clean.

Alaric had already moved to Serena. Two fingers on her wrist. His other hand pressed flat against her sternum, and gold magic flared from his palms, surging into her chest.

He frowned. The frown was clinical rather than alarmed, which Elara chose to interpret as good news. “She is depleted.”

“She’s just tired,” Elara commented. “If you try to move her, just know, she will slide out of the chair and two Alphas will storm in here guaranteed at the worst possible time. All part of the unconscious Serena experience.”

Alaric glanced at Serena, who was wedged sideways in the chair at an angle that made him sore just looking at it.

“She is fine where she is.”

“Smart man.”

The door opened again. Hale entered first.

Finnick Shadowclaw walked in behind him. His eyes found Serena before they found anything else.

He crossed the room, slid one arm behind her back and the other beneath her knees, and lifted her out of the chair in a single motion. Her head lolled against his shoulder and settled there, finding the space between his neck and his collarbone the way it always found it, and her body, which had resisted every attempt Elara made to position it in a chair, went immediately and infuriatingly cooperative against his chest.

Elara stared. “Oh, come on.”

Fin turned with Serena in his arms. His eyes moved to the bed. To Gavriel.

A flicker of relief crossed his face, lasting less than a full second.

Elara almost wondered if she had imagined it.

“How is he doing?” Fin asked Alaric.

“Much better.” Alaric straightened from the bedside. “I am detecting zero dark magic, which considering the state he was in three hours ago, is the most surprising thing that has happened all day.”

Hyran spoke. “She still has dark magic in her from that giant squid from hell. Her magical reserves are now fully drained across both signatures. I can barely feel her.” His voice carried the controlled frustration of a man who had spent months issuing medical directives to a patient who treated them as suggestions. “She is also shadow-tethered to the most dangerous man alive. And what does she do? The exact opposite of what a Master Healer and three Master Mages explicitly told her.” He exhaled through his nose. “She is lucky her blood didn’t kill him or make it worse.”

“She used her blood,” Fin repeated, his face darkening.

“Yes,” Maelor, Hyran, and Alaric said at the same time. The synchronization was unintentional and absolute, the unanimous confirmation of three professionals.

Fin glanced down at his mate and sighed. “Did it work?”

“Oh, it worked alright,” Alaric said, and the dryness in his voice could have cured leather.

Fin nodded once. The nod was efficient, final, the nod of a man who had received the only piece of information he needed and was making decisions based on it.

“Good. The Gamma is going to live. I am taking her back to Shadowclaw tonight to rest.”

“Please do,” Alaric said, with a sincerity that bordered on pleading.

“If it comes back or gets worse, notify me,” Fin ordered. The order was directed at Alaric, but it carried the weight of a command issued to the room, to the building, to the general concept of Gavriel Sterling’s health, which was now, apparently, something the King of Shadowclaw was managing alongside his kingdom and his mate.

He turned and walked toward the door. Serena’s head stayed against his shoulder. Her breathing was steady, slow, the breathing of a woman who had defied three mages, saved a man’s life, and was sleeping through the political consequences with the unbothered peace of a person who would do it again tomorrow.

Hale held the door open. Fin walked through it. The door closed behind them.

Elara sat in the ringing silence, exhaled like a woman who’d just committed several felonies and had zero remorse.

Tampering with evidence? Check.

Lying to a healer and two Master mages? Double check.

Played furniture Tetris with an unconscious, uncooperative best friend? Check.

Watching an Alpha King scoop her up and strut off like it was his court-mandated custody day? Chef’s kiss.

Just another day in Drakenfell.
