“Don’t come any closer p>
Lucie was shaking so hard she could barely breathe. This was what terrified her most-Steven losing control. The charming, gentle man she’d married was all an act. Ever since their divorce talks began, he’d shown her a side she’d never imagined, and it shattered everything she thought she knew.
“Steven, you can’t do this. This is illegal. I’ll call the police-ah p>
She tried to reason with him, but he was already pushing her down, pinning her to the bed like a demon. His face was all icy fury, ruthless and cold, nothing like the man she once loved. He looked like a tyrant, ready to destroy anything in his path.
He’d been gone for two weeks. Now he was back, more terrifying and possessive than ever.
“No, stop, please!” She fought against him, desperate for him to calm down.
“Tell me the truth,” he growled. “Did you cheat on me? If another man ever touches you, I’ll chop you up and feed you to the sharks p>
He looked savage, his left hand wrapped in blood-stained bandages. He was so rough his wound had reopened, staining the crisp white sheets with red.
“Steven, you asshole p>
He used to be gentle. He used to respect her boundaries, never pushing her to do anything she didn’t want. But after she asked for a divorce, all that kindness was gone. Now, the more she resisted, the more violent he became, forcing her to give in, making her beg.
Outside the bedroom, Madison and Lily stood frozen, terrified.
“What do we do? Is she in danger p>
“I don’t know what to do p>
“Should we call Mr. Anderson p>
“Yes, let’s do it p>
They rushed to make the call, but suddenly a group of bodyguards appeared and blocked their way.
“Go to your rooms. Don’t come out unless you’re told,” one of the guards ordered. “But Mr. Heath is furious. What if something happens?” Madison’s voice shook. Andy just stared at her coldly. “That’s none of your business. Mr. and Mrs. Heath are husband and wife. Nothing will happen p>
Madison bit her lip, anxious but helpless. It had always been like this between Mr. Heath and his wife-fighting one moment, making up the next. Maybe it was just their way. Either way, it wasn’t something she could get involved in.
It was after four in the morning by the time it was over.
Lucie was completely drained, falling into a deep, exhausted sleep. Her throat was raw, her tears all dried up, and she’d broken several nails fighting him off. Finally, the room was quiet.
She slept until late the next day, only waking when the heat became unbearable. Every bone in her body ached, and she felt like she was
being smothered under a heavy blanket in the middle of summer.
She coughed, desperately thirsty, and tried to push away the burning furnace beside her.

It took her a couple of minutes to fully wake up. Steven was still
holding her tightly, sound asleep, but his body was burning up he was running a high fever, which_O
explained the heat.
A wave of anger hit her. She shoved at his arm. “Move. You’re burning up and I’m roasting p>
Steven groaned and pulled her closer, mumbling, Don’t go… Don’t leave me p>
Looking at him now, Lucie’s anger flared again. She wanted to slap him. She sat up, glaring at him with all the resentment in the world.
The monster from last night was gone. Now he just looked sick. His bandaged arm was soaked in blood. He hadn’t gone easy on her, but she hadn’t let him off easy either. There were deep bite marks on hiso shoulder and arm, and her nails had left angry red scratches all over his skin.
“Water Steven croaked, sounding like he was on death’s door. “I’m so thirsty… water p>
Lucie’s chest tightened, frustration and humiliation bubbling up. “Maybe you should die of thirst. You deserve it p>
Steven just stared at her, utterly defeated, his eyes full of pain. Somehow, he looked more like the victim than the one who’d hurt her.
Lucie stared for a second, a strange ache twisting inside her. But then she remembered everything he’d done, and forced herself to stay cold.
“Cut the act, Steven p>
He didn’t say anything, just looked at her with red-rimmed eyes, on the verge of tears.
“Hold me… please he whispered, reaching out weakly.
He looked completely broken. Lucie’s heart was a mess. She hated him. She really did. But seeing him like this, she couldn’t help but soften, just a little.
“Wait here,” she snapped, forcing herself out of bed, her body aching all over as she went to get him a glass of water.
