Chapter 75
Shannon bit her lower lip, feeling a wave of disappointment and frustration bubble up inside her. She pulled out her phone, her thumb hovering over his number, but in the end, she couldn’t bring herself to call.
She’d tried making the first move before. Every time, he’d just brush her off, saying she was being childish, acting like she was invisible. And whenever she pushed too hard, he’d keep his distance for weeks, barely even looking at her. She just couldn’t risk being that obvious again.
With a heavy sigh, Shannon turned to head back inside. But after just a few steps, her knees started to wobble and a strange heat rushed through her body. She frowned, muttering under her breath, “What’s going on? Why do I feel so hot all of a sudden p>
Her feet felt unsteady, her mouth went dry, and everything in front of her eyes started to blur and double.
“Crap, did I get food poisoning? Or… did I accidentally take that blue stuff?” Her mind raced. That couldn’t be right-she’d only put it in his bowl, hadn’t she?
She forced herself back into the house, trying to fight the overwhelming dizziness and heat.
Inside, Miranda wasn’t doing much better. She was flushed bright red and sweating buckets. The second she saw Shannon, she called out, “Shannon, what on earth did you put in that soup p>
Shannon’s heart skipped a beat. “Um, just some Reishi. And a whole wild American Ginseng. Plus some Licorice Root… Just basic stuff p>
Miranda wiped her forehead, not even bothering to compliment the food this time. “A whole ginseng? Seriously? That stuff is way too strong. Yu only need a couple little slivers! Please, don’t cook again. You’ll end up making someone sick p>
She turned to the housekeeper. “Take Cody upstairs for his bath. I need to go lie down p>
“Of course, ma’am,” the housekeeper said, leading Cody away.
Miranda didn’t say another word as she made her way upstairs. Once she was in her room, the feeling just got worse. She tried taking a cold shower, but it did nothing to cool her down. To her shock, she realized she was craving a man’s
touch-something she hadn’t felt in years. She was fifty five, and after her husband passed, she’d honestly thought her sex life was over.
Tonight was just… weird. She couldn’t believe how badly she wanted someone, how desperate she felt. After half an hour of tossing and turning, she finally gave up and asked the manager to send up the therapist who usually did her treatments.
Meanwhile, Shannon was barely holding it together. She slipped out of the house, feeling dizzy and weak all over. Suddenly it hit her. It must have been that potion. She must’ve accidentally taken it herself.
“What am I supposed to do?” she whispered, her voice shaky. “I feel so awful… I can’t take this anymore p>
She stumbled to the backyard pool, collapsing onto the steps with her head spinning can’t stand it,” She groaned, digging through her bag for the instructions. She thought about going to the hospital, but the idea of everyone finding out made her panic even more.
While she was sitting there, completely lost, one of the bodyguards spotted her and came over, looking worried. “Ms. Rivas, are you alright? Do you feel sick? Should I take you to the hospital p>
Shannon took a shaky breath, her eyes hazy. The bodyguard wasn’t bad looking. Actually, he was kind of handsome. Anyone working for the Heath family had to be in top shape.
He shifted awkwardly under her gaze. “Ms. Rivas? Do you need help p>
She tried to hold herself back, but her self-control snapped. She threw herself into his arms, breathless. Yes. I need help p>
The bodyguard froze, immediately
trying to push her away. Everyone in the house whispered that she was Mr. Heath’s kept woman. Her parents basically ran the place and no one dared to cross them of he touched her, he’d be risking everything-maybe even his life.
