Chapter 171
In Chapter 171 of “Before Rain Touches Earth Memories Return With Gentle Warmth,” Gemma finds herself in a tense situation as she rushes to the rooftop where her sister Reyna is threatening to jump. The chapter begins with Gemma confronting Rhett, who is anxious about Reyna’s demands to see him. Despite her skepticism about Reyna’s intentions, Gemma decides to accompany Rhett, hoping she can reach her sister where he cannot. The urgency of the moment is palpable, reflecting Gemma’s determination to save Reyna from her despair.
Upon arriving at the rooftop, Gemma witnesses Reyna in a distraught state, barefoot and on the edge, with Rhett desperately trying to talk her down. Reyna’s anger towards Gemma is immediate, as she threatens to jump if Gemma approaches her. This moment reveals the deep-seated tension between the sisters, highlighting Reyna’s feelings of betrayal and isolation. Rhett’s frustration with Gemma for being there adds to the emotional turmoil, as he accuses her of complicating the situation. Cassian, who stands by Gemma, defends her presence, emphasizing the familial bond that Reyna cannot dismiss.
As Reyna expresses her pain, her sobs resonate with the group, illustrating her deep emotional struggle and the feeling of being unheard. She questions whether anyone truly believes in her suffering, which paints a vivid picture of her mental state. Gemma attempts to connect with Reyna, urging her to step back and talk through their issues. However, Reyna’s pleas reveal a sense of desperation and vulnerability, as she reflects on her past mistakes and her desire for understanding from both Gemma and Cassian.
The situation escalates when firefighters arrive, and Reyna’s behavior is confronted. The tension shifts as she is pulled back from the edge, but the emotional fallout remains. Gemma watches as the firefighters take control, feeling a mix of relief and frustration at the way the situation unfolded. Meanwhile, Cassian grapples with his own feelings of inadequacy and jealousy as he observes Gemma and Jace, another character who seems to offer her comfort. The chapter ends with Cassian’s cold rejection of Reyna’s plea for help, showcasing his internal conflict and the complexities of their relationships, leaving readers with a sense of unresolved tension and emotional depth.

Gemma’s POV
I inhale sharply. “Let me guess. She’s demanding to see you?”
He nods once, jaw clenched.
Of course she is.
“She says she’ll only talk to me…”
I scoff, arms crossed. “Let me guess, you’re going to rush to her like always?”
He doesn’t look at me.
“ You tell me! She’s standing on a rooftop, alone and threatening to jump.”
Or, maybe she was pretending, like she always does. But I swallow those words and grab my jacket.
“Fine, let’s go. Maybe I’ll get through to her if you can’t.”
He glances at me as if he’s surprised, then nods. “Of course. We need to cover all our bases.”

above, I can already hear Rhett’s voice rising and falling, as if he’s desperately pleading with Reyna to get down.
As soon as we reach the rooftop, I see her, standing barefoot near the ledge, the wind whipping her hair wildly around her face, dress flapping while Rhett stands a few feet away, looking completely frantic.
But the second Reyna spots me, her eyes widen in rage.
“No!” she shrieks, pointing to me with a trembling hand. “Don’t let her come near me! I swear, I’ll jump right now!”
It takes a moment for Rhett to figure out why she’s yelling, spinning to face Cassian and carrying fury in his eyes. He marches over and grabs me by the arm.
“Why the hell did you bring her? Is this a game to you? I called you to save Reyna, and you brought along her death warrant?”
Cassian steps forward, his voice like ice. “Gemma is her sister. She has every right to be here. Let go of her now.”
Rhett hesitates, then drops my arm. Cassian pulls me behind him and I glance around, scanning the scene. The rooftop is littered with a few empty beer bottles… three at most.

Reyna lets out a strangled cry, hands trembling. “Even now…” Her voice cracks. “Even when I’m going to die… you don’t believe me?” Her tears shine under the rooftop light. “What’s the point of this life if no one believes I’m hurting?”
She lets out a sob that echoes across the night, tugging at everyone’s heart strings.
“Reyna! You asked me to come here, and I’m here. So focus on me, and come down – whatever is the issue, I’m sure we can talk about a solution? ”
“Can we really talk, Cassian? Heart to heart, with complete honesty?”
Reyna keeps crying, like the rooftop’s her stage and we’re just her unwilling audience.
“I’m sorry, Cassian, but I don’t feel like we have had a proper conversation in the last three years. But still, if you insist… then please, please don’t fire me from Blackwell Industries. I have always been loyal… always! If it’s because my relationship with Gemma is a little difficult, then I’m ready to apologize, just don’t snatch my life’s work from me.”
She turns to me, her eyes wide and red–rimmed. “Gemma… I haven’t been the best sister. But I swear, I’ve always wanted what’s good for you. From the bottom of my heart.” 3710
