Tania was about to fire back when Marianna practically collapsed against Davon like she had no bones in her body, her voice soft and pleading. “Davon, stop. Just let it go. Maybe Kayla didn’t do it on purpose. I probably just tripped myself. Don’t blame her p>
Marianna’s explanation only made it worse. Now everyone thought Kayla had definitely knocked her down.
The doorway quickly filled with students looking for drama. Not knowing what actually happened, they heard Marianna’s words and shot Kayla accusing looks.
Davon acted like he’d finally caught Kayla doing something wrong. “Kayla, seriously, what’s your problem lately? I’ve just been hanging out with Maria a bit more. Nothing’s going on, so you don’t need to go after her like this.
“You’re turning into someone I don’t even recognize anymore. I’m really disappointed in you.” ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ.net
With the way those two backed each other up, anyone watching would think Kayla was just some jealous girlfriend causing drama.
Kayla hadn’t planned on dealing with Marianna and Davon right now. But they’d crossed the line–first messing with her, then talking trash about Tania.
“Davon, you’re so full of yourself, you know that? Who cares who you hang out with? Who cares if you’re disappointed?” Kayla’s voice was sharp.
She added, “Trying to play hero? Do you even know what you’re worth? You think you’re important enough to run your mouth at me? Don’t flatter yourself p>
Kayla didn’t hold back her contempt. “And don’t let me catch you trashing Tania again. At least she actually works for what she gets from me. Not like you, just leeching off everyone else p>
A flash of disdain crossed Kayla’s face, and it cut right into Davon’s pride. “Kayla, what’s that supposed to mean?” he snapped, guilt twisting in his chest.
Kayla let out a cold, mocking laugh. “What do you think I mean? Where do you think all your food and stuff comes from? Or are you just clueless? And tell your mom to stop asking me for money. I’m not your dad. I don’t owe you or her anything p>
The second Kayla finished, everyone in Class G started whispering and pointing at Davon. The rumors about him being a love child whose whole family lived off Kayla’s charity spread through the crowd like wildfire.
Davon felt like Kayla had just ground his face into the dirt. Humiliation burned through him, making his temper flare hot and fast.
Class was about to start, and Kayla was done wasting time on these two. She turned to leave, but Davon grabbed her arm and yanked her back.
“You think you can just knock someone down and walk away? No way. You owe Maria an apology,” Davon snapped.

Kayla tried to pull free, but Davon’s grip only tightened. “Davon, let go. Now. Or I won’t be so nice,” she said coldly.
Honestly, with all my boxing training, I could drop him in a heartbeat, Kayla thought. ‘But he just got out of the hospital. Not sure his body could take it.
Davon held on stubbornly, refusing to let go. “Apologize first, or I’m not forgiving you. Not today,” he said, his voice hard.
Kayla’s patience snapped. She was about to make him regret it when another hand reached in and clamped down hard on Davon’s wrist.
“She told you to let go. What, are you deaf?” Payton’s voice cut through the tension, cold and sharp.
Kayla turned and blinked in surprise. Payton stood there–the last person she’d expected to see.
Ever since that day when Payton offered to help and Kayla turned him down, she hadn’t seen him at all. She’d figured maybe she hurt his pride, so she quietly asked Elijah if he knew where Payton was.
