Chapter 118
“So, you think that your boss is a young dude?” Diana asked whilst on our stroll.
I had asked her first if it was possible for magic to make someone younger, voice and all. She had nodded, but had admitted that she didn’t know anyone in the community that did that. It’s a banned magic actually, since it involves sacrifices of human blood to stay young.
I told her then of the call. She still finds it funny. She thinks that either I heard wrong, or the person speaking was the secretary, one of the assistants in the cafe I will be working in. Could that be so?
“But he sounded like the boss, a young boss.” I said, not adding that the voice had sounded so gentle that I had wished to get a glimpse of the person speaking.
Patience young warlock, you are a worker there after all. I smiled at the thought, then frowned. What was I doing goofing over a man’s voice? Seriously Maya, you don’t ever learn, do you?
“So, where are we going first?” Diana asked, obviously giving up on trying to convince me of her own side. She was more interested now in taking in the surroundings. Me too. Only that I was the object of attention now.
Everyone we passed, kept staring at me. I don’t want this, but I couldn’t help it. It was either this, or forfeit my revenge. I chose this. I readjusted the mask, then held Diana by hand.

My mind zeroed in on the cave in a nanosecond and I sighed, almost cussing my mind aloud. Like seriously? That is the only beautiful place in the pack?
There have been other beauty spots in my mind, before the cave, but give it up for my lame brain that thought it humorous to bring up the first time I had dumbly given up my virginity to a guy on our first time meeting.
I must be the cheapest girl.
“Seems it is taken.” Diana spurted, catching my attention.
During the journey to the place just a few miles away from the king’s palace, my mind has been in the clouds devising strategies, fantasizing about revenge results and what nots.
I looked up, wondering what she meant, my lips set in a grim line when I saw Adam and his brothers, and the clique, including the Queen’s children. Catching up I see. Shouldn’t they be in the morning meeting?
The only person that was familiar, someone that I didn’t expect to see in their midst, was Naomi. She was sitting close to Noah who had a woman that was sitting on his lips.
Wow, Naomi must be strong to stomach this sight. I thought, wondering if she somehow could hear me, when she looked up from the book on her lap to me, her eyes widening in recognition.
She waved. The girl fucking waved. And now, the whole clique was looking at me.
Adam, who had Claire and the queen’s daughter on either side of him, was looking at me with mysterious eyes as if he was trying to figure me out.
I looked away from him, cursing my eyes, letting my eyes settle on Naomi, even as my hand searched for the pill container in my bag. I cocked my head to the side, looking away from them, when I felt nothing in my bag.
“What are you looking for?” Diana asked, aloud, and I knew that she had applied the cloaking mechanism.
“The pill. I had put it into my bag p>
“Are you sure?” Diana asked, peering up at me.
I stopped then, thinking back to what had transpired between I and the container. I sighed heavily when I remembered that I had put it into the party purse, because I had thought I would be using it today for the stroll, not until I changed clothes five times and settled on the tote bag.
Oh god. Sorry Naomi. Our catching up will have to wait. I thought, raising my hand and giving her a wave before turning away from them, right after I saw the confusion ring in her eyes. She had expected me to join them.
But why would I? I hated the people she was with. Okay well, hate will be a strong word for the queen’s children. I have not been in talks with them, so I don’t really know them, except that which Laura had told me.
“What are you doing? I thought you were going there? I want to know them, your enemies…I wanted to know them. Is it because of the drug?” Diana asked, and I nodded, feeling pathetic as I did.
Now, I am depending on a drug. Not a good recovery tatic. I thought.
“You can’t depend on drugs, Maya.” Tell me something I don’t know. “You have to rely on your anger that is fueling your revenge. Unless you don’t hate them enough.. unless what they did to you is not hurtful enough, unless maybe you like one of them. I would understand that. For one, the bullies are so p>
“Stop, Diana..” I raised my hand for effect. I knew what she was going to say. Handsome? I hated myself at that point.
Was I that open, that a five year old thought that my revenge is not fueled by enough anger because I am moved by my killers’ finesse? I am really pathetic. I thought, feeling the tears rest on my eyelids. A blink and they will flow down.
Diana pressed my hand. “I am with you, Maya. You can’t fight them with drugs. Let your anger burn. That is the best drug, until revenge is accomplished p>
I nodded, pressing her hand back, wondering how Diana thought, how she sounded like an adult. Responsibilities that came with the gifts, I guess.
