Chapter 9
Cassey yelped in triumph after Ava’s declaration causing Claire to grit her teeth in anger, either because she had lost to Casey or she had been found out or she would be reported to the king for punishments or maybe because Ava didn’t fall into the category of those she could bully. ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ
Their fathers were close friends. That had actually been the reason why no one had said anything in class; they were scared of Claire’s anger burning out and blowing on them. Well, it seems Ava wasn’t.
“Claire, would you deny it again?” Ms Karen asked. I could swear that I saw a hint of amusement on her face. She was enjoying this. I thought, shaking my head, not doubting for once that Claire wouldn’t really be given any punishment, other than a detention probably. She was the beta’s only daughter after all, and the apple of his eyes. He wouldn’t let her be sent out from school even for a day.
Claire didn’t say a word in reply. She just huffed and faced the other side of the classroom, her lips raised in a pout.
“Well, I would take that as a positive answer. Follow me then.” Ms Karen said, before turning around and walking out of the class, obviously expecting that Claire would follow her.
Claire did, but before the miscreant walked out of the class, she swiveled around and raised a middle finger at the class, or more specifically at Cassey who was still laughing and at Ava who just shrugged and brought out a note from her bag.
Taking my eyes off them for a second, I looked at my seat, wondering if it was safe for me to sit now. Cocking my head to the side, I dipped my finger on the chair, then moved it side to side, but there was nothing. Obviously, the glue had plastered totally on Prof Caden’s trousers, making it okay for me to retake my seat.
Wheew. I let out a puff of air, before taking the seat, and dropping my bag which had ladened my shoulders all this while on the table.
“You must be feeling good.’’ I heard a voice say from beside me.
Sighing tiredly, I turned aside and saw one of Claire’s minions glaring at me. She must be calling me bad luck in her head.
Well, I didn’t have time for this or for her, and so I pretended like she wasn’t there, and turned away, taking up my bag and opening it to take out a novel which I had borrowed from the library yesterday. Since there was no teacher in class, I might as well pass time by reading it up so that I could return it before the day is over.
“Hey, wasn’t I talking to you before? How dare you snub me, you wolfless bitch!” The same girl screamed. She was now in front of me, with the other two idiots, probably she was the second in command. Her name was Beth, and her father was also one of the council of elders of the pack.
Watching her in front of me heaving in and out in anger, I wanted to tell her away, to tell her to get a life, but fear held me back. I wasn’t at their level, and because I had achieved a very small victory today didn’t mean that I should open my mouth and begin to shoo them away. Ms Karen might not be around for the second match.
And so, I kept quiet, deciding to bury my head in my book, hoping that she would go away with the others if I kept ignoring them. Oh, how wrong I was.
In the next minute, she hit my book away from my hands, such that the book flew to the other end of the classroom, landing on the desk of a boy whose name I don’t even know.
She pulled my ear next causing me to wince in pain. “Don’t snub me ever in your dumb life, bitch. Answer me when I ask you a question.” She said, pulling my ear harder, her harsh touch disappearing the next second when someone pushed her away from me.
Could it be Cassey? Impossible. The proud girl would rather eat the shit of a mad dog than be seen helping me. She would choose to join forces with them instead. Holding my burning ear with my hand, I sighted Naomi in front of the minions, her lips trembling in anger.
What was she doing? I wondered, remembering Adam’s warning to her. It was true that her brother was a close friend to the triplets and that was why the other students thought twice whenever they wanted to talk to her to avoid the wrath of her brother, but she shouldn’t be defending me in public since her brother always joined the triplets to bully me. It was okay if we spoke in private. But this..wouldn’t it bring some kind of friction between her and her brother?
“What are you doing?” Beth asked her, obviously surprised as I was. “I am sure your brother wouldn’t like this new behavior of yours p>
Naomi shrugged in reply as if she was past caring of the matter. “That is his business, not mine. He won’t live my life for me. Besides, if you know what is good for you, I suggest you get the hell away from her desk, back to your seat, before I report you to Ms Karen. I am sure she would find a better punishment for you three.” she stated, and the three idiots huffed, hissed to their satisfaction like pregnant goats before walking back to their seats.
Naomi looked at me after they had left, a short smile appearing on her lips when I mouthed a thank you to her, just before our next teacher walked into the class, an aloof look as always on his face. That was the history teacher, a human. I will tell you his name if he pops up in my story again.
